TracKick Gear Lube Questions
« on: March 13, 2007, 05:55:46 AM »
OK, I've lent my FSM's out, and don't know when I'll get them back.   ???

I have caught a case of temporary stupidity.
What gear oil do I run in the diffs, xfer, and tranny of my Kick?  Can I run 75W90 dino-juice all the way around?

Does it make a difference that I have ARB's front and rear?

Thanks!
Bob

I run standard 80W90 in all my componenets (except the engine).  Gear oil doesn't matter with the ARB's, just use what you prefer, whether it be synthetic or standard.

I'd only run the higher quality oils in the gearbox and t-case as they don't need to be changed as much, and they could benefit better from the higher quality oil.

OM recommends GL-4 SAE 75W-90 for trani & t-case and GL-5 (Hypoid gear oil) SAE 80W-90 for front & rear diffs. I prefer full synth, but as long as you do regular maintenance, I don't think it matters.

The best stuff I have found so far better than synthetic for off roading and on the road is mystic oil, I think it is made in oklahoma, it is red in color and is the only gear oil that will keep my 6.4 low range gears qiuet, it has real good shock loading way better than the thin synthetic stuff(I had royal purple in mine at first got noisey after two months)and better than the stay lube stuff I tried last run,so I will keep the standard type gear oil in mine and the mystic is gl-2 through gl-7 rated so your good to go for what ever ya got. oh ya only 3.98 a quart.
