New Tracker owner has some questions
« on: March 27, 2007, 03:40:02 PM »
Hi all

Wanted to say hello first.
A few months ago I got a 2002 Chevy Tracker. A 2 door convertible with 4WD. I don't really want to do a lot of modifications since the vehicle will be driven on roads about 95% of the time. It is my commuter vehicle. But I am planning to take it on some backcountry trips. Not extrem offroad but mainly gravel and muddy roads.

However I have three questions. I already searched the forum here but I could not find an answer. I case I have overlooked an existing thread I apologize:

1. Tires. The tires are almost done. Mine has the 215/70R15. Now I would like to change to AT tires. However there are are non in that size. There are 215/75R15 and 225/70R15. Are there any constraints with rubbing when using 225/70R15. I'd prefer this size since the odometer would only be 2% off.

2. Roof rack. I assume this question already came up. Is there a roof rack solution for the 2 door convertible? I could not find anything. Did somebody come up with a DIY solution? Any idea is appreciated.

3. Lockable trunk compartment. Supposedly there was a solution to lock the trunk with some cover. I am thinking of building my own solution and wanted to see how the original version worked.

Thanks in advance

Tires.... I have 225/70-15's and they work fine.... Some people said that 235/75 fit and some don't, I guess it depends on how agressive the treads are.

Roof rack.... I don't know of any company that makes them for the 99+ 2dr.... Maybe check into how they made the 89-98 2dr's and make your own?

Lockable storage...... Was an option on them.... I had one, all it is is a 3 sided(with a top) plastic bin that screws to the floor and when you close the tailgate it becomes a box that you can't get into it. Ok idea but not the greatest for useable trunk space. You also have to take the top off to get it out, so it's not something you want to do often.
