What do you do when yer torque wrench gives up the gusto while putting a motor together?

well in my case if it locks in at maximum torque ----- SNAP----

just going along torquing down intake bolts,  click click click SNAP ----- what the hell ---- hapend to be a dial guage lying around,  sucker jumped from 10 to 120 foot pounds!!!!

my acura claimed 7 craftsman tools, the zuk has already claimed 2!!  I will never buy anouther craftsman tool again !!!

well at least craftsman will replace the wrench, and the intake should be ok with all but one bold in it?  it it leaks when the motor is back in the zuk, then i will pull it off extract the remainder of the bolt and refasten it.

you couldn't tell when you far surpased 10ft/lbs?

Only problem is getting in touch with a Snap on Vendor when something goes SNAP!! Craftsman are a bit easier to replace just for the multitude of stores around the country. I have a toolbox that is a giant melting pot of tools from Snap-on, Mac, Matco, Craftsman, and Stanley. And I've broken my share of each. Prob more Craftsman then the others but then again I dont have to run down a truck to swap out..

And no. its a 3 foot torque wrench 50 LB is about the twitch of a wrist, it goes from 5 - 200 lb of torque
and I would say that the bolt snaped at about 35 or so.

Good luck on getting a replacement. I had a problem with one about 15 years ago. When I took it back to Sears, the guy told me that it was a "precision" tool & not covered by the guarantee. Hopefully they've changed that policy. Have a good one!

Any tool that has a movement I think is not guarenteed. IE Like a sawzall, grinder, etc. I think a torque wrench is in that grey area. I would take it to the local store and see what they say. Go to a couple different ones. I've destroyed many a socket and rachets in my times, replaced, no questions asked.  

lol you should have seen the guys face when i walked in with a shoe box half fu;ll of scockets extentions and ratchets after doing a clutch in my acura:  he looked puzzeled and ask  what have you been working on, I replied an acura --- the guy looked at me like id done somthing wrong replaced the parts any way no hassels but, gave me the strangest look.
the acura used to be a newyork car, and had SFP syndrome to.

well my brother is a snap on dealer so i would have to say go with that  i know he is on the road all day and hard to find, if you get something from a snap on guy/gal just get their cell #, thats the only way i can reach my brother :-/

i get some cool stuff every year for xmas too

Just my ,02 I use a Husky torque wrench every day, I have to torque the bolts that holds the blades on a 6 " Chipper /Shreader every time it goes out to 180 ft lbs.  It holds up great.  I think you can still get them at the Home Depot.  HTH,  Dave

The Craftsman guarantee should apply to all hand tools, the only tools that bear the logo that doesnt get the guarantee are the power tools. I could be mistaken but the torque wrenchs should be covered. It prob depends on the employee you talk to, I had problems trying to replace a phillips screwdriver cause the tip was worn and would slip on a screw, and I was informed that the driver wasnt broken so they couldnt replace it and I had to quote the guarantee to her twice before she saw my point.

I would have bent the thing n front of her and said now is it broke? we will make a trip up to sears later this week.
