Sidekick Throttle Body Help
« on: April 01, 2007, 03:47:10 AM »
Guys,

Need some advice. Down here in OZ we got carby 8v Kicks and I am looking at converting one to the throttle body setup you got in North America. What do I need to know about it and what do I need to get. I have seen the odd setup for sale on ebay but I want to make sure of what I need for this. Thanks for the help.

In the summer I plan on doing this to the carbed 1.6 in my SJ. Over here the early Vits were carb and then went to EFI.
You need to get the complete throttle body and manifold with sensors. The Manifold Pressure Sensor (lives on the bulkhead) and Vehicle Speed Sensor from the speedo. You will also need an EFI fuel pump and you'll have to blank off where the original mechanical pump was or just remove the operating rod. You may need the dizzy as well, there are at least 3 different types. Get the EFI loom and ECU with the bracket, the relays are usually mounted on there too. I did consider the Trail Tough loom conversion but I suspect that it won't be any good for us RHD folks.
If the donor vehicle has an immobiliser then you'll need the immobiliser and transducer too, as well as the key and for simplicity the lock too.
Do you need the emissions stuff?
I have a lot of info on my EFI site, the schematic will show you what bits you need and how they wire up.

Thanks for that. Just tossing some ideas around in my head for another build and this helps.
