What about WEBER(34 DGEC or 32/36 DGAV) carbs- any good?

It seems that it might be a bit too much $$ to convert Sami to TBI. So, i've looked into Weber carbs 34 DGEC or 32/36 DGAV. 
I am sure there are people here who've used them.
Any inputs?

When they are tuned, they are nice. I have a 32 something or other on mine. Been there going on ten years now.

I have never owned a weber, but i have heard they arnt very good off road.  I have no clue if this is true.  Like you said im sure theres someone on here that knows about them.

I ran one for 2 years.  worked good , more power. only had problems on steep climbs. wanted to flood out.  great for onroad and mild trail running. went to TBI my weber is for sale 200.00 with air cleaner and adapter.

I've had a weber for about 10 years also 32/36  rebuilt it once easy enough to do. Sat for two years on the sammi put gas in it started right up. Been running fine I don't run rocks just mostly mud and hills  have no complaints the only other carb I would like to have would be the new weber thats out or some side draft webers of course.

What works on 1.3 ebgine. I've heard the Esteem TBI will work.
I am very interested to see if a modest budget can pull TBI off.

Can you flip the webers 180 degrees? So they only flutter going down hills?

I think the esteem only came with the 16 valve multi port f.i. or the 1.8. I dont think it came with the 1.3 or 1.6 tbi(8 valve) motors

Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

How does it do on the down hills? Does it flood out and die? Does it just flutter but keep on going?

I was thinking about flipping my carb around, i just want to get a general idea of how well it works, possibly some of the down sides.

Yep Gary at the Petro booth had a proto side draft, Harley carb set up that looked very nice. He said it will be good off angle and uphill, no flooding...about $400. I'm planning to buy one as soon as they are available. Hope I repeated what he said, and not what I think I heard...

I have an 86' samurai that has the stock airfilter assembly and carb.  I'm onbly running 235 55 r15 tires and my max flat land speed is 55-60(depending on the wind).  I would like to upgrade to a Weber but don't know which one would best suit my needs.  I live in Florida so there's not many hills but i want to get more horsepower and desent gas mileage.  With my stock carb setup i'm only getting between 15-18 mpg due to it running rich.  I have adjusted and adjusted but can't get it where it needs to be.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

First off, make sure you don't have to emission test. I had a weber 34 and only got 22 avg. I didn't like it but I didn't know how to properly tune it either. That was on my first sammy. I ordered the petro 44 harley swap for my current sammy  because I want more power, it boasts decent gas mileage, and  I worked plenty of 70+ hour work weeks at the modern day sweat shop so I deserve a little treat. I'll be selling my good running stock carb.

You may find a good used running stock carb to put on and do o.k. Go to  Acks and search for the vacuum diagram and make sure all that stuff is hooked up right and also check for vacuum leaks with a can of carb cleaner. My sammy gets 28 during the warmer months and drops a  little during the winter but I have never heard of a sammy only getting 15 to 18 m.p.g. with a stock carb. Maybe you have a fuel leak?   You're throwing your money away in gas so you want to remedy that real quick.
