MORE POWER!!!??
« on: December 06, 2004, 10:58:40 PM »
Has anyone experimented with a diff. drivetrain in the tracker? I like the little 1.6, but need more power with the bigger tires. I was wondering about a V6 out of an S-10 (along with the tranny and T-case). Any other ideas? Tried to do a search and didn't find much. How about a 350!!! I actually seen that in a samuari!!! ;D

yup
I know a guy with a 92 geo tracker
He took the frame and narrowed it, added an extra cross member
put new body mounts and lifted body by 3"
changed the suspension mounts
did a 6" coil over axel
swapped with a set of Dana 44 front spool, rear Dana 60 with a eaton loceker
um... some weird linkage system for the Dana 60 which gives it just unbelievable articulation
removable sway bars
D20 transfer case with a 4.10:1 ratio, built up heavily
Running 4.6ish r&p front and rear
a 327 GM w/ some crazy 700 cfm carb
I believe running some Gel Battery
has a custom Snorkle from the big carburator
Running 37" TSL radials on ....
the Stock Tracker Rims 5.5" rims (ubelieviable)
I'm not sure what he did with the steering but it's some weird high-steer
custom 3/8" skid plates (yah basically tank like)
yah basically not much of a tracker left
but he can kick the shit out of most Suv's on the road 0-60 :)
and climb almost anything

I've gotta take a picture next time I head out to Ontario
03' 2.0L CAMI Tracker w/ 1.5" Front Spacers, 2" Rear Spacers, 1 & 1/4" poly-rubber rear spacer w/ hose clamps, Monroe Crown Vic interceptor rear shocks,1/4" bumpstop extenders, 1.5" strut Extenders, removal of sway bar and strut bar + plenty of cutting for 245/75/16 Goodyear MTRs

there's a tracker on ebay right now with a SB 350.

not that I consider it a good idea, but ...
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.

we are trying to find a aluminum 4 or 6 cyl that will put out about 150HP and torquey on the bottom end.  havn't done enought research yet to hope to fine somthing that is extreamly cheap and plentful(sp?)  The first engine we had in mind was a EFI 4.0 out of a ranger(somthing like 170 hp and tons of low end torque) but its heavy so we are trying to find somthing else.

Anyone know a small aluminum engine that would work?  i would loke to keep EFI, Muliti Port would be nice but a TB motor might work also.

stu

P.S.  Chebby parts are not allowed in the shop so a 4.3 is out.

OLDS MADE AN ALUMINUM V8 BACK IN 61-63 THEY CAME ON SOME F85'S I HAVE ONE ;D  THEY'RE 215CID AND WORTH ABOUT 200HP NOT SURE ON THE TORQUE ???  ALUMINUM BLOCK AND HEADS VERY SMALL BEING ONLY A 3.5 LITRE. OLDS SOLD THE ENGINE DESIGN TO LAND ROVER WHERE THEY MADE IT A LITTLE BIGGER 4.0 LITRE I THINK :P

I'VE CONSIDERED PUTTING THIS IN THE REAL RED WAGON BUT.... ;D

Turbo
Light weight
The engine fits the trans no problem
and puts out 160 HP in 16V form

Engine swaps are OK, but it's not
Suzuki, or a V6 swap would be good

i would do a V6 zuk swap in a heartbeat, but i have never seen a totaled newwer zuk at the insurance action(sp) that didn't go for a few grand :-/  But on the onther hand,  Hondas are everywhere and you can buy a rusted one for 50 bucks.  so why not?  I think a turbo would just not be my style,  and engine swap on the other hand would be somthing i would do.
