tracker bikini top
« on: December 09, 2004, 11:43:25 AM »
hey guys I've been trying to find pics of a 89-94 tracker with the bikini top on it to find out for sure if I wanna do a project I thought about doing.  Anybody on here have one on theirs to give me a rough estimate on what it looks like?  I'm just wondering does it fully enclose the back behind the front seats or is it just something for the top alone?  I hope somebody knows what I mean  ???    Basically I'm thinkin on putting one of them on my tracker, losing the back seats, and then welding a plated box for my recovery gear where my backseat would normally be.  With a cover overtop that of course aswell.  Thanks for the responses guys!

I don't have any pics, but standard bikini tops only cover the front seats from the top of the windsheild to the targa bar over the front seat backs. If you want something to cover further back, look around on ebay and local salvage yards for a used full top with cut windows or a bad zipper and chop the sides and back off, then you'll have a safari-type top that will cover from the top of the windsheild all the way back to the rear hoop over the tailgate. Just add a strap to each side of the back to hold tension and you'll be all set!

Edit: after re-reading your post, you are looking for a bikini top to cover the top, a windjammer to seal in behind the front seats and a duster deck cover to cover over the cargo area. Here's what the bikini and duster deck cover from Bestop look like:

True... but I don't think anyone makes a Windjammer for the pre-95 Track-Kick.

BTW, I made one a few years back. I took the Trucklet down to the local plastic bending shop. He took a sheet of 3/8" smoke plexi and bent it to the truck's angles. I cut 2 holes for the rear seatbelt towers & covered those w/ plastic tubing... glued into place & capped w/ scraps.

It needed to have a lip formed and glued around the edges. W/o it, it looked unfinished.

That was about 6 years ago. The sheet cost $148, plus $22 for the plexi-tubing. He said he'd do the "lip" for another $50.

That's exactly what I had in mind except I want to have the duster cover custom made.  I hate the way the others go up over the rear seatbelt towers.  So I'm going to remove the towers and have just a flat cover made like on the Samis.  As MPerry said, they don't make windjammers for the older Trackers so I'd have to have that made anyway.

A few years ago, I saw a web site that was advertising what they called a "K-7 top".  It was a full canvas top that followed the body line down the back of the targa hoop and then straight out to the tailgate.  It was like a bikini, windjammer and duster all in one piece.  Unfortunately, the item was a closeout and they said the company that made them went out of business.  I should have bought one when I had the chance.

I know they make those for the 95+ (96?) models... and for Sammies. I wonder how they'd tie it down on a 94 and earlier model. (Maybe ties around the door frame? <g>)

The seat belt towers are bolted on in
my 89'  So I would say you could just
remove them if not needed

Yup, they unbolt easily ... you'll either decide how you want to deal with the plastic panel back there ...

BTW, if anyone has a use for them, I have a couple tops in the garage. One's in fair condition, the other good condition... except some thief cut the passenger side window.

One is gray, the other white. I'm not sure where the rear window went for the gray one... I think I tossed it when I tossed the black top... so the rear window (about 2 months old) has black trim for the gray top.

I figured I'd ask. I've been trying to find the owners locally who are running around w/o rear windows, but they've parked their cars this winter. <g>

I'm in Springfield OR.
