Wow I can't believe I used to think this thing was not that capable

I took it down to the old quarry which has over the years degenerated into a mud pit. We were bombin around down there having a good time and then we decided to leave. Thing is, in order to get into the quarry you need to descend a big steep hill. There is no other exit or entrance. The hill was steep and the ground was made of that greasy clay crap that sticks to your tires and gums them up instantly. I tried to go slow and steady but that didn't work at all. I tried many different things but nothing was working. I then tried another exit but that didn't work either because my Sidekick isn't high enough. As I backed down from that hill, I noticed a faint hissing sound and once I got to the bottom of the hill I realized my driver's side passenger tire had been punctured. It was at this point in time that we realized we were about an hour overdue for coming back from break...(we are enrolled in a mechanics program at the local college but our teacher doesn't really mind what we do, but we're only supposed to have 2 half hour breaks.) We figured if we got some of our buddies to park at the top of the entrance hill we would try and make it up as far as we could go and then hook up the strap and get towed up because my 235/75 Roughrider AP tires didn't seem like they were about to make the cut. Once we jacked up the truck and replaced the tire I lined my Zook up with the hill with a good run up to it. I threw it into 2nd gear (low range of course) and just gave'r...with the engine screaming at a good 5000 rpm, andrenaline flowing like the mighty rivers of the north, the steering wheel turning like some mad rudder control on an old fashioned ship, the truck bouncing up and down as it roared up the hill and the rear end sliding every which way in the treacherous ruts, I kept the pedal near the floor and managed to actually make it all the way up the hill! I was so impressed I just felt I had to share this story...I definitely have gained a new respect for the capabilites of my 4WD 4 door Sidekick.

Surprizing aren't they? ;)
I'm sure some of the problem was not having the right tire (more of an a/t not m/t)

The first track/kick i had was my girlfriends 93 sidekick 2dr. I was amazed i usually go out to my dad's friends property. they have some pretty cool trails out there. there is this his called the v hill because it sorta a v on its side. i thought there was no way i would make it and i was hoping that it would. I went up it and the ass end went sliding sideways as i am going up this hill and i just hurried up and slammed it into second and the little thing just started slowly moving up the hill. It was so cool and is exactly why i have my 95 now.

Oh for sure...right now I've got some "All Position" 100 dollar crap on there. I think once some cash comes in I will upgrade to some 30" mudders of some sort...or else a body lift and 31" tires. I think another thing that would have helped would be airing down the tires...I was still running 30 psi.

List of stuff to buy:

tire plug kit
tire pressure gauge
bigger better tires

Well I took a look at my tire. Guess what? The sidewall's got a tear in it so that tire will now be my spare once it is patched and I had to purchase a new tire for $100.

Hopefully one day I will be able to afford real tires... :-\

Here's a cell phone pic of me trying to get up the exit hill:
