4.62 or 6.5
« on: April 26, 2007, 04:18:22 AM »
Im trying to decide on the track/kick 4.62 swap or the 6.5 case gears
would be the way to go. the cost when done is about the same.
Im mainly steep hills, trails, deep mud and street. Some rock but not too
much. With the 6.5 from Low Range im thinking 4low and 1st gear will be
to low for mud but i figure using 2nd or 3 gear will give me more options.
Does anyone see a problem using the trans in this manner?

After a little more resurch i can get the track front 3rds for $32.00
petro works install kit for $25.50 and spacer and retainer for $25.00
x2 = $165.00. the only tool i need to get is inch lb wrench $35.00
grand total $200.00.

Transfer case gears lower high by 20% and low by 187% $475.00
plus shipping.

Im thinking 4.62s and rear lockrite  :)

I ran the 6.1 trail tough gear set for over a year with stock gears and open diffs and it worked great for the most part, they will save your clutch and put most of the pressure on your u joints, the t.t. gears have better street manners, I think there only 16 percent reduction on the highway so 1.6 to 1 and 6.1 to 1 for the calc, just make sure you have the stock zuk u-joints (52.00 ea.) on the rear drive line.
