Help with lift on 94 soft top tracker
« on: April 27, 2007, 07:32:14 AM »
I searched the forums and found nothing toward what i want to try. I want the biggest lift I can get on my tracker, I saw the grand vitara springs are a direct swap for 2 inch lift. I also saw the lift kit for the track/kick's and from ironman on ebay, but then i saw the 2 inch lift springs for the GV Very Nice, lol. It cost less than the track/kick kit and that would be 4 inches. has anyone done anything like this? Im not to worried about the rear shocks or anything, but the front I know I will have to figure something out, Maybe kinda adapter to use a strut mount on a longer shock...

any suggestions would be greatly apriciated, Im 19 just got this 94 tracker for 700us dollars anbeat the crap out of it in the trails and want more. maybe a solid axle sammy swap later.

Hey man I'm 18 and got a 94 soft top track too!  I used 4door track springs and 2 inch coil spacers.  3in of lift.  You DO need longer shocks..i got monroes for a 91 crown vic.  and you WILL need a strut spacer or longer strut(OME)..dont know what your budget is so write back and tell how much you got to spend..

I sold museboy the 2" coil spacers. If you want some they will be $90 shipped to anywhere in the US. Or if you want I also have 1.5" spacers for $70 shipped.

I really want springs so Im going to save the money ($150), don't the spacers keep the springs semi compressed, which leads to sagging, I'm want to use the 99+ Grand Vitara lift springs.I need to get new wheels, These stock steel wheels suck azz, they hold dirt in the groove as well as water, I have a little vibration now because of some mud. and Im probably going to make some kinda strut adapter to use some Long Rancho shocks. and then a new motor, Not sure what i want to use, Im thinking toward nissans though like a KA24 SOHC those motors are real torquie, it will more than likely be a 4cyl, though.

I'm not sure if the spacers keep the springs loaded or not. My 97 4dr does not seem to sag but maybe they do preload the springs??? I just thought I'd offer before you bought some Jeep spacers and tried to bore them out. Hope all works out on your Tracker the way you want, if you need anything let me know.

The spacers will load the springs more if strut spacers or longer shocks aren't used. In the front with the standard configuration the springs have to be compressed about 1" to bolt up the strut. That gives around 450lbs of spring compression. If no spacers are used and a 1.5" spacer is used then the spring must be compressed 2.5" to bolt the strut back up, giving over 1100lbs of preload. Whether this will cause the springs to sag is debatable, the real reason is likely to be because the springs will fully compress before the bump stop is reached. Springs should never be fully compressed or stretched.
If strut spacers the same length as the spring spacers are used then the preload remains as before. The same applies to the rear, I don't have any figures for rear preload because I never measured it in the stock configuration. The spring rates at the wheels are around 155lbs which means that you need to exert over 155lbs of force before the suspension will compress. This rises 2.5 times without strut spacers or longer shocks which gives a much harsher ride.

WOW, thanks for the info. My instructions include how to space the strut and part #'s for longer rear shocks. I could not imagine putting coil spacers in and not increasing shock/strut length. That would kind of defeat the whole purpose of the lift. This website is truly great. Anyone needing info on ANY Zuki related question can find it here!!
