Having trouble removing the rear halfshafts....

Was given a veichle without the rear diff as it was knackered and removed, so obviously the shafts have come out at some point. Just rebuilt a new diff ready to fit - but cant get either shaft out to put it in!

Undone all the bolts, all around the drumbrake too, as the haynes manual says.... but they wont budge. Even tryed 'towing' it out with another vitara! ha! Must be something i've missed... Help please!

Is it just a case of pulling/ forcing it out after undoing alll the bolts??

The bearing is a tight fit (or at least should be). A slide hammer on the end of the shaft is the preferred method but if you haven't got one try bolting the wheel back on and giving it a jolly good kicking.

on the older models with the 4 center studs on the axle. Pull the brake drum. Flip it over and put  it back on the studs. Tighten two nuts on about half way and use the drum as a slide hammer.. not the best for the threads but it works.

Yeah, slide hammer is the shiznit...  cheapo here in the States, at Harbor Freight...

even with the slide hammer, I had to give mine a JOLLY good "wonking"
