30x9.5 tire on stock 15x5.5 rim; yay or nay?
« on: May 08, 2007, 09:50:49 PM »
Still wondering what I should be doing in terms of tires and rims. It will cost me around $750 to throw on a 3" body lift, 31x10.50's, and 15x8" rims. Something tells me that upgrading from a 29" to a 31" tire is not worth it but another part of me says do it anyway. I figured that the happy medium is to upgrade to a 30x9.5 because I won't need the body lift to run them. I was just wondering if the 9.5" wide tire will actually fit on my stock 5.5" rim. If not it's all in vain isn't it? Here is a picture so you know what rim I speak of:

01 Vitara 2.0L 5 speed, 2.5" Calmini lift, 2" body lift, Sidekick rims, locked rear, 31's, 4:1 low, 5.13 diffs <SOLD>
03 XL7 2.7 5 speed, 4.5" AE lift with OME springs, 2" AE body lift, 5.13 diffs, 3:1 low, 235/80R17 BFG AT's on Ultra 17x8 with 1" spacers, skid plates, Balmer Fab front bumper

they tires should fit fine on the stock wheels, but you will get alot of rub on the frame, if you go with the wider wheels you will move the tires out a bit, so it wont rub. im happy running 30's but after these are warn out im going up to 31's and putting in a 2" bl. just remember, you will eventualy want to go bigger, always happens.

Hmm, maybe I'll have to keep an eye out for some wider + more backspaced rims. I have read somewhere that Ford Ranger rims work, but the center hole is too small. Is there a way to cut the center hole bigger?

Also, what do you think about the cheap white "trailer style" rims with the triangular holes? Like this:
97 Sidekick 4door 5 speed, 1.5 spacer lift, 2" body lift, CJ rims, locked rear, 31's, 4:1 low <SOLD>
01 Vitara 2.0L 5 speed, 2.5" Calmini lift, 2" body lift, Sidekick rims, locked rear, 31's, 4:1 low, 5.13 diffs <SOLD>
03 XL7 2.7 5 speed, 4.5" AE lift with OME springs, 2" AE body lift, 5.13 diffs, 3:1 low, 235/80R17 BFG AT's on Ultra 17x8 with 1" spacers, skid plates, Balmer Fab front bumper

Ford Ranger wheels will NOT fit.
If it is an Older Ranger (i.e. full size, yes)
80-93 Dodge
Ford Bronco (full size)
Jeep CJ (pre 8?)
Suzuki is 5 on 5 1/2
in doubt?
Pre mount it on your spare tire rack and use an extra Suzuki center cap
to check center hole.

Fitting five studs through four holes would be a bit of a pain, but if you're into that sort of thing...
