The Story:
I was a trail leader for Moab Rim at the 10th annual Cruise Moab (sponsored by my club, Rising Sun 4 Wheel Drive Club of Colorado). This is coming down the Devil's Crack on Moab Rim Trail. A flop here is almost guaranteed death, because there's nothing to stop you from this point to the Colorado River, about 250 feet below (the cliff is just off the left side of the picture). This has always been a dramatic obstacle, and the first time I ran it, Eric Bewley was my spotter (was that Zukfari 2004 or 2005?)
Just after this picture, I got her down on just the front tires (and maybe the sliders), and hung there, balanced for about 10 seconds, while I said things like "this is SO not right!", then I just drove out of it.
I took a bad line. I should have been at least a foot farther to the driver's side. But you know, when you're the trail leader, you don't need no steenking spotters, right? Well, after that, I had no problem bringing the rest of my drivers down - FJ-40's, an FJ-80, some 4Runners, and an FJ Cruiser. No major carnage.
