« on: June 15, 2005, 03:53:44 PM »
had CalMini send me a list of stuff needed to do an anvil instal(this fall i hope).  but....

driver's side long inner 26 axle from a 96-98 - i understand this

steel fron dif carrier from 99-04 GV - will my new 5.83 gears fit in this?  and can i still get a loc rite for it (which is the main reason for the anvil in the first place)

driver's side outer 1/2 shaft from 89-98 - i can use the one i have on the 90 now cant i?

why no mention of the pass side axel?

what else am i missing here?  thanks all 8)

You will be able to run a locker in the front with the anvil set up. But you will need the sami carrier to install in the GV steel housing.

You will need your Drivers side half shaft you have now PLUS one more to use on the passenger side. The anvil replaces the weak passengers  side  half shaft with a stub shaft and a drivers side half shaft.
If you need a little guidance while installing Anvil or more info before ordering check out http://www.zukiworld.com/month_110103/feature_zigsbeef.htm

The Sami Carrier is not a must have for the Anvil install. The sami is a Locker install item. I am not sure if they make a bolt in locker fir the GV's or not. But with the Kicks/Trackers the stock carrier had to be replaced with a Sami Carrier that had been machined to accept the large diameter passenger side half shaft. With the Anvil set up I doubt the machining would be required :-/ MAybe somebody else will jump in here that knows for sure?  The good part it that your Kick ring gear will bolt directly to the sami carrier and the sami carrier fits right into the Kick/gv/xl-7 housings. I would suggest calling Hawk for all the "parts" you need to complete the install. Just tell Rick or one of his staff members that you have the anvil, 5.83's, and your doing a locker and steel housing. They will know exactly what you need ;)

Ring gear will bolt up but should use a spacer to adjust back lash correctly (For the ring gear / kick ring gears is thinner then sammy) and a collar for the center pins (inside ring gear dia is larger / Sammy ring gear hold the pins in place)

Hawk has it all in stock and is great to help sort it out.

The nice thing about The Anvil is you just get to use your Right side axle on both sides.
But Mike H as an Article on how to convert your stock one over.

The center pin retaining ring is not needed with the 5.83's. Factory gears need it bit not the 5.83 aftermarket.

There is also an article about installing a steel Suzuki Axle in the front, hang on and I will see if I can find a link.
