My new baby!    It's a '92 Sidekick 4x4.


The good:
Just about free.
Engine rebuilt 80,000 km ago, new exhaust, newer tailgate, clutch, brakes, alternator+ battery, 4 great 235/75R/15's on 5 nice alloys, JVC CD Player, no rips in the seats, interior was dirty but in just about perfect shape. Black hard top, brand new white soft top, QUIET! -- I keep thinking it's stalled, but it's just running smooth + silent.  I drove it 500kms home on a trip permit and had no problems other than a leaky water pump.


The bad:
See attached. Damn the factory carpet and that rubber stick-on junk. I swear they put that stuff on JUST to put holes in the floor down the road.  My '82 Toyota was the same way.... Once it was all ripped out:

The front body mount on the passenger side is dead (Bottom image) -- Rusted completely through the under-floor brace, and then cracked off.  What are my options here?  I haven't had much time to really get underneath and check it out, but I'm thinking if I can get some thick sheetmetal under the floor, and if that bodymount/brace will come off, I'll find some wide rectangle stock tubing and just make my own.

There are a few more holes, but they're the sheet-metal, pop rivet and tar kind. I'm going to bedliner the inside when it's all done, and hopefully won't have to worry about this again.

I haven't found a place that sells floor pans, etc for these things. Can someone point me to a place online?  I'm up near Ottawa, ON (Canada) if anyone nearby has a welder and will work for beer.   

Shoot, you did good!  The hardtop alone is worth $500-600... used.

Just get as much rust off of it as you can,  weld in some scrap sheet metal from old hoods or door skins, pound it into shape and coat the whole thing with POR15 or Chassis Saver from Magnetic Paints

I can't tell a lot from the body mount picture, but making your own is probably the way to go.

I haven't seen replacement floor pans online.. or anywhere for that matter, but someone else might have.. I say just fake it...

I don't bother with uploading pics to this site, I hate having folks click on them to view them.

Instead I host my pics elsewhere.  Photobucket or the like is good.

I use Forum Sigs, I pay for the service, but I host THOUSANDS of pictures there for 2 bux a month.

Does not look to bad, mine was way worse and I put in sheetmetal and some roof tar over it and it is holding up. Nice hardtop to.

Wow I thought mine had some nasty cancer, but that makes me feel alot better.  After I wreck this winter and started to fix stuff.  I decided to pull the carpet cause i know it holds water.  Then I started to scrap off the darn sound proofing.  Which also held water in next to the floor. I will try and post some pics up later on.  What i have found that works great for patches are old computer cases.  Heck, the metal on them is thicker than what a sidekick has anyway.  If you want some cases I might be able to dig some up and cut them flat and send them to ya.   

I found a guy out near me to do some floor work. Gonna drop the beast off tonight. =)

Woo! Got it fixed, got it back. Now I can't see the ground from inside the truck *at all* without cheating and using the windows.





BTW: That's not more rust on the floor, that's foam from the seats.

She's never going to be pretty, so I think I'm going to paint the whole outside of the truck with this stuff: http://inpcars.com/gxci/ 
It's not soft like Herculiner... It's more like a hard/thick/textured plastic paint.  I've used it on a few truck beds and if you prep it right, it actually holds up pretty well.  Should be good at keeping rust away, too.

Here's what I'm planning on, we'll see how it turns out. (Sorry to whoever I stole that pic from!)
