Nitrous on a sammy!!!!
« on: May 15, 2007, 04:53:45 PM »
I was just looking through my JEGS catalog, and just so happened to run across the nitrous-oxide page  >:D   I Was just wondering, has anyone tried, or is using NO2 on their sammy (or any zuk for that matter). i have a feeling that it would be great in the mud boggs. Well just looking for some do's and dont's , i might just try it out for $hits and giggles ;D

I dont think the bottom end on these engines could take laughing gas in stock form. If you dont like changing engines I would avoid it.

All Sammys beg for better breathing...but NOS...I don't think so...UNLESS you wrap the whole damn motor in duct tape  ;D

Hi , Here in Chile we have a couple of guys using nos on sami's.
Although the use 16 valve Kick engines , and just 50 hp single shot wet system.
Men they are good dune runners.  ;D let me see if I can get some pictures.

I found the competitors list on the atacama 48 hrs desert trophy held here in Chile.
http://www.raid-atacama.cl/competidores.html
there are the names and engine types.

If you can't understand something just let me know...

pictures dont laod :'(  but i deffinately get the point..  Yeah i would like to get that power, but a new engine... not so much.  since i was bored last night, i pondered on a few things, and basically if i rebuild te engine (again)  using nhra style rods, pistond, etc.  i could probably pull it off ;D    then again, the parts would cost more than i paid for the car.  maybe i can just set it up so the NO2 gets injected into the cab :P   thats should be fun ;D

A long time Ago I tried to use pure oxigen instead of nitrouse oxide , because I couldn't get any legal nitrous here . It worked ... not as I expected but it worked. The problem with pure oxygen is that as comon air has aprox. 26% of oxygen , and Nitrouse oxide has arround 33% of oxygen , Oxygen has 100% oxygen  ;D . SO , the amount to work with are dificult to control since they have to be really small amounts. Even though using as little as I could (dry system) , I could notice on a regular paved road up hill I usually used 3rd gear at 5500 to go as fast as I could , with the oxygen I could get 4th gear acceleration going up hill  ;D . I didn't had the balls to try it off road.  :P

With pure oxygen, wouldnt you need to up your fuel ammount?
More air means more fuel?
Or am i compleatly off?

I have a nitrous kit for mine, just haven't found the time to install it. It has 35,55,75 hp jets.
I will start out low and see how it feels,it's a zex kit and it adjusts for fuel so you don't lean it out to much.
I don't think nitrous would be much good for rock crawling or where slow speeds are needed because of the sudden hit of power.

Yeah, the low end torque is no problem for me, and unless i wanna blow another engine, i wont be pushing that button below 3500 rpm's    :-\ .....  but how cool would it be to bust out some cat-tails at glamis in 2wd  with the flames coming out of the exhaust (just joking with the flames, but it gives it a good touch  ;D  )  yeah i was lening towards the zex kit aswell, and probably gonna just leave the 35 hp jets on, i dont think im gonna need more than that (or at least i ope so ???  )

Whats up with this?

When I posted about adding NO2, I was dumped on and every one said no. I am also looking to add some HP for the times when the RPM's are up, like out on the dunes or playing in mud holes.

Dont take it soo hard bud,  its cuz im a newbie, and I only know just about nothing ;D  if you want some crazy-a$$ power high end, and low end, just get a universal turbo, that some company sells (i cant remember the company now ???  , but i will post it soon later on)    and just plop that thing in there, it should give u amazing results at high end, and pretty good pep at low range stuff, also the wheezing sound a turbo makes never hurt anyne >:D    remember "whistle while you work"

http://www.ststurbo.com/universal_system

ok, there it is. its the universal turbo, goes under ur cab, and should be fun to break when ur rock crawling ::)    its just in the $3500  range, and it has a bit of lag from what i hear, but other than great at high rev's  ,   the under chasis mounting sort of kills the mood though :(  I know know for sure you can get a greddy turbo or any turbo that you like, and mock up a turbo kit, but thats takes time, money, and the kind of know how that i deff dont have

Its a remote mount turbo set up.  I have been hearing of more and more people putting these on there trucks and cars, due to there being no room in the engine compartment for a turbo.  From what i have heard when your do run a remote mount turbo, you dont need an intercooler. I guess the the length of the charge pipes is enough to cool the air and eliminate the need for an intercooler.  But the downside is, with the length of charge pipes being that long, it creates quite a bit of turbo lag.
