Starting Problems
« on: May 21, 2007, 03:04:53 PM »
Hi guys, im new here and i have a problem with my 1990 Suzuki Samurai.  the problem is that it wont start.  I changed the plugs, wires, distributor and coil.  I talked to a mechanic and he said it could be the igniter.  I was wondering if you guys had any good ideas before i go throwing more money into it.  And if anyone knew of where i could find these parts online or anywhere other than a junkyard, ive  called junkyards around here and they dont have anything...Thanks a lot......

It might help if you told us what it does when you try to start it. Does the starter engage right? Does the engine turn over or not? If it turns over, does it just not fire? Can you smell fuel? Is the sammy EFI or carb?
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

If you changed the distributor, but the starter turns the engine over, then the distributor is probably not set right, and so the timing is off so bad that it won't start.

How long since it started?  What did you do different for it to not start?

I have a 90 samurai also.  i had the same problem replaced everyting fuel pump to you name it.  i put it in the shop and it turned out to be a bad coil.  it was expensive but your problem sounds like what happened to me.  hope this helps!

ok...the mechanic said that i had power going from the ECM to the coil, then coil to the igniter, but after the igniter there was no power....but he wanted me to make sure cuase hes trying to keep the costs down for me....so i thought i would see what you guys thought....
