New zuki owner in Wy with ???

Hello!  I just bought an 88, however I just found out it a bad wrist pin on the number 4 cylinder.  I found a new engine, but it is an 86 or 87.  Does that engine swap straight across with an 88?

Also, if I need a new engine, I might just upgrade.  However being my first project truck, I have no idea how to go about doing that, and where to go for specs and ideas.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  currently it has a 4" lift jeep-eater with wrangler springs, 33.5 swampers, and 538 detroit lockers in the rear.

What about the 1.6 liter, what years are compatible with an 88.

From what I hear, you should deffinately go with the 1.6 swap. I havnt personnaly done it, but its waaayyy simple, and you get great numbers (power and torque) at the rear wheel (and the ront when need be ;D )  or just get the same engine, I'm not sure about what years are compattible, so I cant help much with that sorry.

a 1.3 from an 86 sami should bolt right up,  as far as I know,  the 1.3's didnt change much,  the 1.6 swap involves wiring harness changes if you want to run a fuel injected one,  and an adapter, flywheel kit,  it's a lil pricy.  I know it's probabaly worth it,  but   if I was going to do that,  It would be alot easier I think to find a 2 wheel drive toyota pickup truck and  swap in the engine and tranny >:D,  that would be bad-f-in ass.  it would take some work,  but i think that it would be prolly cheaper and more powerful.  and the toyota 22r's run foreeeeevvvveeeerrrrr.   just my two cents.

86,87,88 1.3s are the same and will bolt right to your  trans bell housing. Be sure to put new clutch  and throw out bearing while you are at it.  The 33s are way big for the 1.3 unless you have low gears in the transfer case or diffs.  !.3s are ok power wise if you make them breath with a Webber carb and header set up. Search the threads for ideas. There are many ways to go and we have all tried them at some point  Be sure to check the sponsers here on Zukiworld. Petroworks has a great new carb set up for the 1.3...thats my nickles worth...Gary

PS...the 1.6 WILL turn those 33s better than the 1.3

The 1.6 swap uses the original 1.3 flywheel, you can also do the swap without the adapter plate but it makes life easier.

thanks for the info.  Where would I look do find the changes to the wiring harness for a 1.6, and are all the 1.6 liters fuel injected?  Is there a simple kit a guy can buy to get the job done?
Last question, does anyone have a 1.6 liter engine for sale within a reasonable distance from Wyoming?  Thanks again!!

Check out Trail Tough's website, they supply modified wiring harnesses. For the price its not really worth doing it yourself (unless you're thousands of miles away with a RHD truck, lol).
AFAIK all the US made 1.6s had EFI, 16V is the more powerful, 8V the easiest swap. If I did mine again I would go 16V.
