What lube for locking hubs?
« on: June 10, 2007, 10:51:27 PM »
I just replaced one of my front wheel bearings and want to clean and relube my locking hubs. I was wondering what kind of lube to use? Wheel bearing grease or something else? Thanks,
Dean

I just use wheel bearing grease.  I haven't had any problems with them freezing up on me.

I have used both wheel bearing grease and motor oil....both have worked fine for me.  The motor oil tends to seep out a little creating an oily residue, but it also doesn't get "stiff" in cold weather like wheel bearing grease can.

The service instructions from Aisin quote "MP grease" or, Multi Purpose grease. I've used bearing grease a couple times, and just clear grease too. didn't notice a difference between the two. I clean mine twice a year, just make sure not to pack it with grease, just apply thin layers on the parts.
