New Tracker on the way
« on: December 08, 2004, 05:04:42 AM »
Hey guys I'm Jake.  I'm a friend of Bionic Onion and bigrubbersoffroad and have also met Digger aswell through Jon.  I'm currently going to be picking up a 93 Tracker that Bionic Onion (jon) was mentioning about as a parts car and I'm going to start working on it.  Its the 8 valve thats running on 3 cylinders right now.  My question is can you guys give me a brief rundown on what might be causing that so I can get her running strong once as soon as possible and begin on the more fun projects that these little rigs can do =).     Appreciate the responses guys  :D

Probably has a burnt valve.  You will probably need to rebuild or replace the head.

It could be an electrical problem.  Cap, rotor, wires, or plugs.

Get a factory service manual too (buy or borrow one). if it has a "check engine", that may help diagnose the problem.

Could be a major problem, could be minor.

My initial diagnosis steps would be ...
1) Compression check
2) Eliminate any/all "check engine" conditions
3) Check suspect plug for fire, fouling, etc

The 8v is actually nice in it's simplicity, so I suspect you'll discover the prob soon enuf.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.
