Water Pump Self Destruct ???
« on: December 07, 2004, 02:41:17 AM »
Anyone ever had their water pump (bearing I suppose) spray metal shavings all over the engine?

I got to work this morning with a serious knock-groan-screech-whatever sound that I thought was coming from the water pump earlier in the week (it was much quieter before this).  Finally, the engine stalled because of the drag I guess.  I was thinking something more serious like a main or rod bearing, but when I saw the metal shavings all over the water pump area, I thought water pump bearing again.

I was planning on replacing it with the head soon -- looks like soon just got here  ::)

I once had an old Volvo (75' 164)
that the water pump exploded, I mean
pieces everywhere, the pump was in at
least 6 seperate broken pieces and the
water just blew out like an explosion,
good thing I was on my way home, I was
like a mile away, funny, I don't remember
how I got it home, I probably just drove it,
I swear that engine was indestructable
