I just put the 4.24 gears into mine.  Just don't use 1st gear anymore.  I run around in 2nd and 3rd now.  Anything fast than that, and i either use 4th gear, or shift into high range.

Bigger tires will "speed you up".  It wouldn't be worth the effort to buy the rockhopper gears.  They have gone thru several stages as they had some failures early on, especially with the samurai/sierra gears.  They used Rockhopper I, II, then III, at different ratios.  Guys were breaking them a lot early on, but haven't heard much about them in a few years.

I bought trail tough's, but i'd say that those or any variant thereof would be the best choice.

Now that i have such low low gearing, i'm considering bigger tires, since i now have the gearing to turn them.

im running 1.6L 16V auto tranny. 4.24 crawler gears and 5.71 r&ps. tires are 32".

the thing is we dont do much rock crawling here. mostly trailing on muddy cross country terrains and close circuit off-road races. i cant join the close circuit races anymore because my vit is awfully slow now. with the stock transfer gears i feel that the vit is a little underpowered. i was hoping for something in the middle and the 3.79s are just that. too bad.
