switcheable parts
« on: July 05, 2007, 11:51:49 AM »
how much of my 2 dr kick will switch over to a four door kick of the same body style era. i am looking at replacing next year it will be a 16valve 5speed, don't care about anything else.
are the diff gears the same as my 2dr 5spd kick and transfer case and even tranny and clutch parts i guess i should ask what is not switcheable.

interchangeable parts:
diff gears (although they won't necessarily be the same ratio...depends what trannys they have).
tranny (although, if both are 5 speeds, the one behind the 16V will have a .795 5th gear, where the one behind the 8V has a .865 5th gear).
clutches/flywheels (the 16V fiber plate is bigger diameter, but will fit on an 8V flywheel and vice-versa).  The pressure plate part of the clutch, and the flywheels, are the same between 8Vs and 16Vs.
tcase.
axles.
there are other swappable parts....but the ones listed are the major ones.

Hi bus-driver  :)

So what happened to the GV  ;)

Anyway - rear axles and housings are interchangeable. 16V - early models ( eer pre 95 here in NZ ) had crap ( can i say that ) exhaust headers ( they close up and cause the head to cook ) so if they are still stock then get some extractors. Otherwise they are a very good motor. I have personally found the early model 16V's to run a little stronger down low - anything over '94 seems to be quite strong in the top end rev range but lacking down low  ??? maybe Mr Suzuki changed something ( someone here may know why  :-\ ) - or maybe it is just what we get here in NZ  ::) .

Anyway - the 1600 16V is the way to go IMO. Good luck  ;)

.......... the other Q is are there any weakness that i should of know about the 16valve?

I have heard of people having problems with the crank key shearing off, or partially shearing (wallowing out the key slot in the crank and creating running issues).  I don't know if this is a factory defect, or if it results from people not putting (torquing) the crank bolt down properly, after it has been removed.

hya zues the GV is stil in the picture its just that they are about 10 grand cdn right now for an 01 average kms and then i will beat the snot out of it while still paying and then spending more on suspension (calmini) and then beating the snot out of it a little more and the wife and i were thinking that is a lot of money to start wrecking....but if we cannot find a good condition four door kick then it will be a GV. she is also replacing her car with an unlimited wrangler so that will  be a daily family car and mine will be the offroader camping car but it depends on how the $$$ of leasing the wrangler is we both like the size and space of the 4 door wrangler so i meet even keep my 2dr. but i am researching now so that i do not waste time later.....i still want the GV tho.

bus - yeah I thought the same about getting a GV myself ( trust me I understand ) then I just thought "what the heck, you only live once and you can't take $$$ with you when your gone" so I took the plunge and to be honest i have never looked back  ;). I love my GV - I use it for family "adventure" runs - scratches: they are still making paint aren't they  LOL ;D
The other reason as you stated is that it was easier to find a low mileage GV than a good Gen 1 five door. Hell if guys are still punting the old Gen 1's then there is years of life left in a low mileage GV surely.

Just my opinion of course.

zues i agree totally with you but i will tell you i have had this kick for 2-3 years and that is the longest vehicle i have ever owned....i am really abusive with my cars, they are toys to me.
like i say tho if a 4dr kick is gonna cost me 4 grand for a good conditionn then i will look at just buying the GV....in a perfect world i would keep my kick and bush pig it....i do not have the room at the house and i do live in  a kinda nice area so the dirty truck gets comments now so
when the time comes i will decide....if i can do a small spacer lift and at's then i willl till i get the money to do the lift and MT's.....protection will be the big ticket.
