Need advice on two dead cylinders
« on: July 09, 2007, 07:45:03 PM »
Here is the deal. I bought an engine off a person a few months back and just got around to installing it and getting it going. Ran really bad so changed plugs, checked plug wires and such. Finally got tired of guessing so I ran a compression test and first two cylinders have 175psi compression and last two have 0. I am going to pull the head and see what is going on. I figure it is going to be a blown head gasket between the two cylinders or some burnt exhaust valves. Anyone have any other ideas?
Guy said the engine only had 58k on it and ran great. Man, what a moron he must think I am. $450.00 I will never see again. DOHHHHHHHHHH

dont feel bad...the tracker i currently drive i paid 500 for...i thought it was a great deal since it was in decent shape...well i didnt test drive it cause i didnt know how to drive a clutch at the time...i just had the guy drop it off and i paid him (BAD IDEA) >:(  When i started to learn to drive it i started hittin the gas a bit more...well it had NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO power...did a compression test and found 80lbs on all four cylinders....so i ended up puttin an engine it it, clutch and about $1500 more to get it goin right...but now she runs like a dream    ;D  Just know your not alone on the "i got ripped off" thing...it happens to the best of us  ;)

Well i got mine for free and i knew it didn't run(it still doesn't) but ya there is a hole world of things that can happen to any motor any time. With that being said look before you buy and don't judge a book by its cover, (cause i know i have many times).
