Preparing Trackick for Mudbog
« on: July 13, 2007, 07:03:24 AM »
Hey all I finally talked the locals into running a 4cyl class at the local bog .  I have a 95 tracker 2dr  16v 5speed. It has 4" suspension lift with 31" LTB'S that clear. I also have a rear Lockrite installed. What else should I do , he really wants me to make a good showing so they will keep the class. I have to stay street legal and cannot modify the body . I was thinkin of doing a full belly skidplate and maybe a front locker . I have about $600 in sponsorships to spend and a month to work on it .

Yep, belly skid, skid ramp from front of frame to belly skid, front locker, take extra weight out (seats, interior, dash inards, etc...) and do what you can to make the engine run good and hard.

This sounds like fun. Please have someone take some pics and post 'em up here after you win!

Be certain that the air intake is not via the plastic crap under the fenders. pull that junk and make sure the inlet will stay dry. I have a poop pipe snorkel which works, but not every1's taste.

Keep the front diff breather up dry too. Probably wouldn't hurt to silcon the elec conns near the dist.

I've had mine deep, (mud was deeper than my 31's, and water over the hood), but I was also CERTAIN it wouldn't drown. Sur nuf, it chugged right on through (locked f/r).

Worse part about mud boggin is the cleanup ... my rad was packed full, my alt is now noisy ...

I expect some skid plates will help too, but ...
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.

I install the front lock right from Trail Tough in my 91 tracker and I know it was the best 300 bucks I've spent.  Definitely go with the front locker.  I also run the Calmini skid plates.

I agree with all of the above!!!  Locked all the way around is a must, you will want to try to keep the splash out of the engine compartment, rubber belting works well.  And lighten it as much as possible.  Then put it in the mud hard big  "R"'s and redline will get it done!!!  Good luck!   Our wheeling club has also built mudpits for the 28th of  July in Casper, Wy.  We have a 4 and 6 cylinder class (5.0liter max)  any tire size!  I'm puttin in my 87 sami on 33" boggers!!! and my main bog truck which is an 80 chevy with 454 and 33" boggers!!!

When I first built lil Suzy back in the mid 90's, she was built for mud bogging. The above ideas are good do whatever you can to keep the mud out. The Sidekick frame fills up quite easily. I am still trying to get the mud out of mine. I would recomend that you weld up all the holes in the frame or at least silicone them. The front half shaft axles are the weak point in the sidekicks, I would look at installing the toy half shafts otherwise you will probably break a half shaft every week. What you will find is that the truck will settle onto the skid plates and the front wheels will pull it through. The back axle will just flop from side to side and whichever wheel gets traction will pull with a locker of course. I am not sure what year sidekicks changed to the larger front axle shafts but I think it was 96 if that is true you will also need to upgrade to the larger axles. this will be fairly easy if you install a locker at the same time. lastly I ran 31X12.50 boggers on lil Suzy and she would go anywhere the big trucks would go.
