Front diff question.

Front diff question.

My rear diff is a 12 bolt and I just pulled my front apart and it's a 10 bolt  :-/. so now I can't remember if you can get a 12 bolt for the front and the only place I have seen that info on this is the ARB  on line catalog  but for some reason it won't load the page now  ???

What I' trying to work out is seems I have to spend some $$$ I want to try and build up is a G/V Steel front with 12 bolt, 5.12s and 26 spline axles -  if it's possible. It also has to allow an ARB to be fitted at a later date ?
Will this combination work ?

Here's my currant diff problem at the moment...

I thought, but could be wrong, that all
sammie diffs were 10 bolt, and the front
Vit/Kick diff is the same size, and therefore
also a 10 bolt, the rear diff in a Track/Kick/Vit
is a 10 or 12 bolt, depending on the year

Calmini shows 89-98 front as 10 bolt
and 93-98 rear as 12 bolt, so I think the
fronts are all 10 bolt setups

Fronts are all 10 bolts including the GVs

This is a good way to go.  When you go that way the carrier will be steel.

And, No the 12 bolt will not fit into the front housing.  I messed around with a cut up rear thinking to mount it in the front.  The 12 bolt is a lot bigger and you are really pressed for space.

The steel 10 bolt is holding up good from what I hear.  If your low on money you can mount a steel carrier into the alumum housing.

Also, I know that the steel 10 bolt from a Sami will bolt up also but there need to be a little machining/grinding done to it.  Get a hold of Hawk Suzuki, they know there.  I think they even sell them that way?

I'm going to the commercial dismantlers Today (which is just next door to work) and they have 3 Vitaras with steel housings in them  there so it just a matter of trying to find out if one has 5.12s in it  and preferably 26 spline axles.

Full power to front wheels stuck in clay?  Thats how mine did the exact same thing.  for the next one, I'm going to get some aluminum rods and weld reinforcing plates on the diff housing.   Should work

I suspect they will all be 26 spline but none will be 5.12s :(

All Suzuki Samurai rear 3rd's are Steel 10 bolt 26 spline.
   BUT 3.73:1 gears

You can switch over the Kick 5.13:1 gears relativly easily.

What a day !

My Calmini 3" suspension and 4:24.1  gear set arrived this morning  so the got the day off to a good start then I went diff shopping next door and a long story made short I managed to secure a G/V steel diff complete with axles etc for NZ$472.50, not bad considering we started haggling at $750  ;D so I'm  one happy zooker.

It's out of a manual G/V but I'm not sure what ratio it is. But then considering other dismantlers wanted $850 for them I'm willing to take the gamble and if it's wrong I'll just bite the bullet and get the 5.83's form Calmini.  ;D  ;D ;D.

NZ's biggest suzy dismantler told me that we did get some 5.12 G/V's so heres hoping. ;) He was the one that wanted $850  :o

No clay, although I have blowen C/Vs in that stuff ;D.  Basically I was trying to climb a steep bank with a near vertical break over at the top  and used the "hit it harder method" each time until the front wheels got about 2'of air under them, landed loading up the drive train and the weakest link let go first end of story  ;D

Its possible we had a 1.6 model that had 5.12s but it had the ally axle. If you have to get the 5.83s then you won't regret it  ;D

Well I got it Today and I had to work late so I didn't get  home until 11pm but the suspense was killing me so into the shed and..........


It's 4.3  :'(

The first plan for tomorrow is to hunt for some cheap 5.12's  then if that fails I think it will be Calmini 5.83s I guess.

Who runs an anvil housing here that can tell me what spline (22 or 26) the short axle supplied by calmini is.

I want to order an front ARB today which is the 26 spline version to run in the G/V setup  and will be ordering the 5.83s from Calmini so I might get an anvil at the same time but don't want to order the wrong locker and the catalogs doesn't say.

I have emailed Calmini to find out but I'm impatient and want to order the ARB ASAP  so any one know ?  :)

I think 26 is correct, but I'm not posative about that.
