Wagoneer Dana 44 axle swap into SideKick/Tracker
« on: July 25, 2007, 12:58:07 PM »
Hello,
New member here. I am just wondering if anyone has any pictures or know anything about this conversion? I have Dana 44 axles from a 84 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, and have been thinking about buying a tracker/sidekick to build a mild crawler out of. I am leaning towards coil springs, because I am not sure how well leafs would work with the short wheel base. I found some information while doing a search in this forum, but no pictures. I am hoping someone can post some here, or email them to me. If not, can someone post pictures of one with a similar solid axle conversion? I am planning on using the stock transmission and transfer case if this is possible. Thanks a lot!

Dan

WELCOME!!!  Check the faqs and search SAS.  There are several different ways to do it.  TrailTough has a killer SAS kit for Toy axles but with some mods I bet it could be done with D44's.  Make sure the pumpkin is on the correct side... they changed them from pass to driver at some point.  Good luck and post pics of the build.   8)  Also, go to zuwharrie.com under IFS tech faqs the second listing is specifically for SAS pics and builds.

Thank you for the reply. I will look into that other site and see what I can find. These axles are correct, the diff is on the passenger side. Now I just need to find a cheap Tracker :) Thanks

What kind of leaf springs are some of you guys using with your SAS setups? The stock ones with my Wagoneer axles are going to be to long. I am wondering about using some rears from a Chevy S-10 or Ford Ranger? Any ideas or advice? Thank you
