I NEED MORE POWER. motor swap.

I was thinking of doing a motor swap for my X90 and I considered a Hayabusa or a peripheral proted 13b rotary motor >:D.  I need more power without increasing the weight too much, any advice is welcome!

The rotary engine would be cool on the street, but they develope their power in the upper rpm's so off-road might suck.
I used to have a '73 Datsun 1200, and the most common engine swap for those is the maxda rotary. Look up the Datsun 1200 forum on line and I'm sure someone will have some info for you.

Look in the for sale section for turbo charger, 1k and you get about 180 h.p. out of yours, or for a 45 lb. increase go with a chevy 60 deg v-6 around a 4.1 or so what ever the impala is using, there 245 h.p. good luck on the rotary they suck the fuel.

Even if I turbo my engine I could never get the kind of power I want, im looking for about 350hp and im going to swap out the X90 4wd for a 2wd trans, I just want a lightweight X for autocross and drag racing.  I didn't want to increase the weight in the front much so the car will be better balanced.  But I can live with a 45lbs increase.

It's light weight, rwd, rigid frame, good gear ratio for racing, fun to drive and people love to watch it autocross.  Thats why!

I would try a GM 3800 Supercharged motor, a turbo engine with 350hp is hard to autocross. I use to drive a 97 Talon with around 400hp and i couldn't imagine trying to autocross it and it was AWD. Turbos dont get full boost until about <3k> rpm.  With something like an X90, lightweight over the rear axle and short wheelbase, a supercharged motor would be the best. You get all the powerall the way through the rpm. My Talon would spin all four tires off the line and when the turbo hit full boost 32 PSi it would break traction again. It was unstable but very very fast. Try looking into building an old 22r toyota motor, they have a lot of aftermarket parts, lightweight, and reliable. try www.LCengineering.com

Exactally why I was thinking of the Busa or rotary, both motors are not too peaky with smooth power bands.  Thanks i'll look into the 22r cuz im well aware of there reliability!
