Last night one of my cousins friends took his lifted(yet 2wd) dodge ram pickup off road in a field, and got it stuck trying to cross a rutted road. even though it has some stupidly large tires with massive tread, it still just spun in forward and reverse :P To give you an idea how subtle the rut was, the tracker could easily go across it in 2wd. So after trying everything from jumping on the bed, to rocking it, to putting boards from a stolen pallet under the tires(the field was in a business park). Nothing would get it unstuck. So they call one of their other friends and he gives me a ride to my car. I come back, and we hook the tracker to the Bodge (thats not a typo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bodge), and I pull it out using 4wd and low range >:D. I now know all these lifted full size trucks are truly worthless off road. They are too wide to fit down trails, the frame and suspension is too stiff to flex and keep the wheels on the ground, and the gasoline ones guzzle gas, usually getting in the 10 to 12 mpg range. The diesel ones are ok, but that is just because they get decent mileage. I still find it funny that a full size truck had to be pulled out by a geo tracker ;D, and afterwards the owner would just brag about how he can go faster on the pavement than I can, well so can a nissan sentra or toyota corolla ;D
Runnin' it stock with 225/75R15s and an unmodified 8valve TBI motor (I need a doug thoroley header and a cam) (more power) (1.6 liters of madness) (vroom + sewing machine sounds)

When i lived in Memphis I pulled a number of full size trucks out. One I remember was a full size Chevy with 40" swampers which broke an axle stuck in a mud hole. I sucessfully pulled him out but was told that i was snatching lil Suzy off the ground when i hit the end of the recovery strap. Lil Suzy was a legend in her own time in Memphis, She could go anywhere the guys with the 44's could. With 18" of clearance below the skid plates she could pull herself along when most smaller straight axle trucks would be looking for a pull. Dave

I remember once a friend and I were doing some snow off-roading in Big Bear in my Samurai one night.  When we came to a fairly big opening we saw two guys waving to us.  They got they're big monster truck looking Ford full-size Bronco stuck and were stuck out there for the last 2 hours and were getting scared they were going to freeze to death out there.  So we let them hop in and my little sammy just cruised over all the ruts and mud their truck made and we went right to the ranger station.

They kept tripping out at how tough the Zuk was.  My buddy and I just laughed because everyone doubts the ruggedness of a Suzuki till they trail in one.

I've got some pics of my little diesel sami pulling out a Hummer H2 on a trail...talk about eating crow.  For what its worth though, I wheel with some guys with fullsizes on 44's and they can get those rigs up harder trails than I could get my sami.  The have a LOT of body damage though...
