tracker hunting question
« on: August 03, 2007, 11:35:53 PM »
whats up out there. First off love the forum and all the info avalible, so i've got some questions i hope you folks could help with.

1]   looking at a 92 2dr softy auto w/ 94k and a super clean 95 2dr softy 5spd w/150k... which would be the better choice?

2] used to have a 96 kick sport and loved it but out of curiosity how long do these motors run?

right now i'm running a 91 isuzu tooper as a DD/ weekend camping trailrig. I live pretty close to the cliiffs in IL and the badlands in IN and any time i've been to either the zuk folks always seem to have the most fun in those places.

3] last question, how would this work out?
      92 or 95 tracker 2dr softtop
- 2.5 RR suspension lift(no bodylift for me)
-29x 10.5x 15 interco truxus at radials on 15x8 procomp streetlocks 3.75bs
-shrockworks bumpers and sliders or trail tough bumpers and sliders
-front locker and possible rear locker or spool

Not if but when I buy one of these 2 vehicles I plan on the above mods right away so I can take it out for a romp but also use it as a DD to save on gas, engine and drivetrain mods will be done in the winter : I'm set on this plan and my wife says do it!

PLEASE point me in the right direction!

thanx and sorry for the long post

The low mileage on the 92 is nice but it was not untill 94 that they started putting in the roll over bar in the frame and the side impact beams (not to mention cup holders :) ).  Also if its a 95 or newer then it should have the 16 valve engine as well.  I know that in the 1994s sold in CA there was a 16 vavle option but thats pretty uncommon in one.  I know as I livehere and have yet to find one.  Alot of guys on here have well over 150,000 miles without any problems, its a Japanese 4 cylender so if the previous owner took care of it it should be pretty worry free.

All of the gear you have listed you want to add is bolt on so it should work fine and I know with the 2.5" lift the 29's will make clearence easy.  I think even up to a 31" but you may feel some real power loss, 30" seems to be the majic number right before real power loss based on reading on the forums so I stopped at 30".  And I would not go spool lockers if this is a dayly driver since it won't let the inner and outer tires spin independently.

thanx for the input, about 10 minutes after I posted  i came across a 94 auto with 112k on it. I'm thinking 94 or newer is going to be the better choice unless the 92 is super clean and runs great because its a little cheaper and that means I can have a lift and tires on it real quick. If for some reason I'm not able to put a lift on right away will I run in to any problems running the 29's?

A stocker should be able to clear 235's (almost 29) ok. Might need minor fender/wheelwell trimming, not much. Depends on the depth of tread, and at full compression the tires might rub.
