Leaky transfer case?
« on: November 24, 2004, 03:35:27 AM »
Hey all,

I have run into a leaky transfer case on my 92 Tracker. I was told by the dealer that a simple bead of silicone will do the trick? I was sceptical but he assured me that is all it was.

Im hoping you guys could confirm this for me, and if so what type of silicone would be recommended to use?

Thanks again.

I think mine was leaking too ... put in the spring spacers, and seems to have stopped :)

(probably the shaft coming out that 1/8") ...

I need to find the leak, but I can also just watch/change often (I can be a lazy ass)
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.

It seems to be leaking from the top of the transfer case from what I can see.

ya may want to give it a darn good degreasin' then go for a drive as this'll tell ya where its comin from for sure as it may be from gear lever section or any where !!

so clean it , drive it ,check it then repair it with any old gasket forming silicone.. but you may want to check the gearbox level for oil as well as it may be coming from there..

then keep on zukin' along...
