Where do you get your tailpipes from??

Where do you get your tailpipes from??

I see tons of people on here using a 2 to 2 1/2 in exhausts.  From the header to the tailpipe is easy to get just because its one straight piece.  But where do you guys get your oversized (2 to 2 1/2in) tailpipes at?  It has like 3 bends in it and the only one the parts stores have are the stock 1 3/4 pipes.  I'm not spending retail for a calmini exhaust so i'm making my own...HELP???

Hauber freight pipe bender and a lot of work is one way. I got lucky and have some good old boys with a muffler shop and they put on a whole system cheap. I would try taking the pipe and the truck into your local shop and see how much they want to do the bends then finish the install your self

Ditto, the good ol boys at the local muffler shop put on a glasspack, 2" pipe and the tip for $80

Kirts Muffler Shop , Cadillac , Michigan... They do custom work at a fair price... I take all my "JUNK" their

Local shop for me as well, I pretty much take all my exhaust work through there.  2" from the cat back into a heavy duty muffler and out.

Local shops up here can't find their |removethispart|@sses with their own hands when it comes to anything custom.

I went Calmini but not sure I'd do it again.  Decent quality but not worth the money in my opinion.



Somewhere on here or Zuwharrie somebody mentioned one time that they made their own.  Used 2.5" crimp bent pipe from the parts store.  Just went into a parts store that stocked pre-bent pipe and started looking for stuff with the right bend to match over the axle and then the next bend to go out under the bumper.  That's a common sort of bend so I'd bet it could be found without too much trouble.

ya i was thinking about using the pipe that has crinkles in it that you can bend yourself but do you think it would mess up the sound of the exhaust tho?

Take your truck to the local independent muffler shop and tell them you want it 2.5" and as straight as possible. Use a glass pack and be sure they put some sort of flex point just behind the header or it will break. My exhaust runs almost straight to behind the back axle and only bends to go to the side of the fuel tank. Dave

The crinkles won't mess with the sound much at all.

I'd go with 2.5" if the pipe was crinkle bent to overcome some of the crinkles.  If it was mandrel bent I'd do no more than 2" myself.  We're only talking about a 1.6L motor here...

well i think ill go in this order. Header, straight pipe (2in) back to the muffler, no cat, then 2 to 2.5in crinkle tailpipe...not sure about that size yet

I'd put a cat on.  It's a federal law that says it has to be there, doesn't matter if your locality tests emissions or not.  I picked up the Tracker's high flow cat for $85 delivered off of eBay.


My second Tracker had a cat and no muffler.  Sounded decent.  Like this one better with a Magnaflow high flow cat and a Cherry Bomb.

Thought for the day:

Go find a parts place that has pre-bent pipe, shoot the breeze with them, tell them what you need, and start playing "does it fit" with 2.5" bent pieces.

Most shops around here will charge $50 to make a tail pipe, 2", 2.25" etc.
I'd just go price one at a "muffler" shop before you go spend money on crinkle bends... the amount you spend on the pieces, then have to monkey around with them, you might find it worth the extra $20 or $30 to have it made ;) ...and it's all one piece

well what i was gonna do is cut my stock tail pipe off, take it to the muffler shop and have them bend it to match that...50 bucks aint bad i guess

$50 where i live... Canadian funds ;) however, there's about 12 different shops within about a 20 mile radius

On my Sport, I used a Flowmaster 2 1/2" tailpipe for an '87-93 Mustang. All I had to do was shorten the outlet end about 4 inches. Don't know if it will work on a regular Sidekick though. But it might be worth finding a set of stock tailpipes someone took off. I think they are 2 1/4" and they are mandrel bent and stainless too. You can probably find them for free.
