Transmissions???
« on: August 08, 2007, 10:35:20 AM »
I have a 4 wheel drive tracker, 1995.  I was going to do a kicker3 myself but have realised that it is over my experience level.  I want the sammy t case for the gear reduction in high and gearing options.  My question is:
Do I have to replace my entire transmission with a 2wd one or can I keep my old one and just replace the rear cone/out put with a 2 whell drive?  Will my shifter still work or do I need a 2wd shidter?

Kinda back wards from what others are doing.  I have searched and found some round about answers but nothing specific.  Thanks, Baked

I believe the back end of the transmissions are different, so you would need to replace the transmission rather then just the tail housing.

If your looking at putting a samurai transfer case in a Tracker that is probably more work then the Kicker 3 setup except the cost.  I would check on the Tracker 3 installation and see how hard it was for some of the people running them now.  If I build another rig it will be a Tracker/Sidekick with a Kicker 3 setup using parts from my existing SJ.  :)

You just have to take your transfer case off and send it in and wait about three or four months(there is another company doing them now also)for ott to cut the front of your transfer case off and make the adapter for the sammie case that you will have to find and then move you rear diff over to the passenger side, cut and shorten the rear drive line and lengthen you front drive line, and cut another hole in your floor tunnel and so on. if you buy another kick case try to get a 91 or newer. or a two wheel drive trans from a kick and a intermedeate shaft to sammie x fer case.

I was going to do the kick3 my self!  There is a whole lot involved!!  I have already cut the front out put off and realized that it is quite the under takeing......I purchased a 2wd tranny last night from aftermarket4x4.  I will go ahead and mount the sammy tcase and run it like that.  This will still give the gear reduction in high range as well as alot more after market support.  Thanks for all your help guys!!   Baked

Forget OTT out of Vancouver BC... They take too long and are difficult to get a hold of. I would try hear... http://www.rock4xfabrication.com/ As I hear they have them on the shelf ready to go... It's not listed on there site but give them a call... Send yer old t-case in and they send you one back modified and ready to go.
