Hub experiences wanted
« on: August 14, 2007, 04:34:53 PM »
Ok, I'm getting ready to buy new lockouts for my Grand Vitara. Can those with experience with each of these hubs give me their opions.

I like these for their cost but the description says they have nylon internals which sounds odd...

AVM (Rugged Ridge)

Super Winch

Warn standard

Warn Premium

2000 Grand Vitara Limited, 2" lift, 225/75-16 BFG KO's, 5.12 gears, Safari snorkel, roof rack.
1987 Samurai LWB, VW 1.9 Turbo Diesel.

I have the AVM ones and they seem pretty good, no problems yet. If I had the money at the time though I would have went warn premium.  ???

Use stock sidekick locking hubs... Much cheeper and VERY RELIABLE. It is very rare I hear people breaking the stock AISIN hubs... Save yer money for other mods.

I have been looking for the last 3 weeks for a pair of OEM used. They either want as much as a new pair of aftermarkets or they need a rebuild. I did finally win a pair on ebay but once I got them I found that the bearings are shot and one is missing a spring and the other has two broken tabs.  >:(

Call me crazy, but the AVM and Superwinch sure look a lot like they share some parts.

What happened to the original ones on the rig?
Did you try Sean |removethispart|@ aftermarket 4x4?

Grand Vitara's never came with manual locking hubs.

I haven't tried him but I will, thanks.

warn primos are the best by far but $$$, next in line would for sure be aisens. Superwinch allen heads tend to strip out which can be a pain if something goes wrong on the trail.

They're still on too.
I'm happy with them.
