Tracker Vs Jeep Vs Cherokee Vs SUV
« on: June 07, 2005, 02:07:30 PM »
I keep seeing tricked out cool monster tire jeeps and nicely set up Cherokees, a few H-1 and H-2s, and the odd general SUV or pickup tricked out with cool stuff and think, man I gotta get me one of them!

Then I go wheelin out in the wilderness in my little Tracker.  Driving over ATV trails with sand hill climbs that are to tight and steep for big rigs while the jeepers and cherokeesers stand around with their hands in their pockets shaking their heads, then I cruise through hood high water, power through soft sand that would sink an H-2, cruise through narrow trails that would rip the sides off other rigs and I think, Naw Iv'e got it pretty good in this little rig!  Then I take off the top, throw my surfboard in the open back, head to the beach and have a blast.  And no one will steal the little guy!

Ever try off roadin with someone standing up in the back, and ten minutes later have the top on in the rain?

Yep think Ill keep the little trucklet!

Now I need to get some bigger shoes (only runnin 235s)and I gotta get a cruise control!

Ok so what happens when you need to go someplace
(here in colorado)with real BIG rocks on the trail, and its said a jeep needs to run 35 to 37 inch tires.  Will my 4door kick ever have a chance, with out lots of mods? From reading these threads for about a month, 31 inches is enough, bigger than that things start to break.
Does it take more modification to a kick than a jeep for the real big stuff?
Don't get me wrong, I really like my kick, and it uses alot less fuel than a jeep, and probably is more reliable too.
I have lots of questions about wheeling, but I am trying to gleen info from these threads a while first before I ask too many questions.  I went up a few weeks ago, thru some creeks, and dipped the hood under the water a couple times.  I have a video of it also.  What fun!
well this has been long enough.
Thanks

I think Mike Hagen once said a Track/Kick
on 35s is like a Heep on 38s, so that being
true, a Kick on 31s should be like a Heep
on 34-35s   ;D  Get a locker too, makes
Heeps shutter  :o

Or Little Bug-er ;D :P

Anyway, keep that as you have the advantage of getting through tighter trails (more places to go! ;)) and about the big rocks, make sure your got plenty of undercarriage armor, regear, huge tires, etc. to go over huge rocks and keep up with them Heeps...! ;D

Is there a big diffrence between, for example, a air locker and a auburn posi?  There sure is a big diffrence in price.   :(

Posi = Limited Slip = Less slip than an open diff, but more than a locker.

Air lockers are cool... open diff to fully 100% locked with the push of a button ;)

Here is the only pick I could find of me and my club. The guys I ride are 37's+ with the majority of them being 40's+. Needless to say I'm the runt of the bunch with my Kick on 33's but she hangs right in there with them on 90% of the obsticles. As far as cost goes, yea I have spent time and money on my ride but nowhere near the cost of buying and building a Jeep.

the money I've got into my trac might buy a POS heep ...

I can go just as far or further than heeps that have 2x as much into them.

But of course it's a "girlie car" LOL

Where would you like to go Jeff?
I run the Rock Garden on Spring Creek, and Chinamans, on 31's.  You can too.  Yeah, it'll take some money.

Where are you in Colorado?
