Well, I know this is about "Tracker Vs Jeep Vs Cherokee Vs SUV".  And its a long story, but lets just say I took the thing where I should'nt have.  On that road, the 2wd caravan had clearence issues.  On the other hand, the 4wd volvo wagon I saw up there had a worse time than me.  Sorry no picts.

Where are you?I live in Pueblo.  My dream is Blanca peak.

I'm north of Black Hawk.  Blanca is an optimistic dream, but I know there's a Track/Kick guy down there that runs Blanca all the time.  Does Search & Rescue work up there, and everything.  His name escapes me right now...  Well, I'd have to look in my Colorado Trails Volume 1, by Chuck Wells, to search out good trails down south, but I'm sure there are plenty of 'em!

Yeah, I want to do Medano Pass some time, just haven't gotten down there yet - I heard it was closed off last week, because of the high runoff.  I love the Dunes.

To Echojeff:
I used to wheel in a Jeep CJ-5 but it wasnt anymore "set up" than a typical built up Tracker or Kick.   My Tracker is more capable in the conditions we have here in Central FL than my CJ was.  The thing is we have a swampy, sandy, fairly flat type of terrain and lots of brush and roots to navigate but no rocks.

A Kick/Track/Sammy is the perfect rig for our conditions but I wouldnt make it my rock crawler!

What makes these little trucks so good here is that they are light, articulate well, narrow, very manueverable and handle the sandy tight trails really well.   It's kind of like the plains of Africa if that gives an idea.

But for big rock country I would add a crawler type rig to the stable for sure.

but never get rid of that little bug!

Former Sami owner now Jeep XJ owner...

Ever try to drive an American Bus in downtown Tokyo? That's kinda what it would feel like driving a 4dr Cherokee compared to my old sami.

Plus these things break at the wrong time. When should an axle snap? In a hard situation right? NO! Try on the road making a left to air up at the gas station. WTF!

I can do 95% of what my friend can do on (Jeep on 35's) with a set of 32's.

A stock jeep can't handle anything above a 33" tire without snaping axils when driven hard.  My friend has $1500 + in his rear axil so that he can run 35's.

He's now going up to 37's in the hope to out wheel me.  I don't think so...

I have both a '98 ZJ and a '90 Tracker. The ZJ needs a tranny and the Tracker needs an engine. I had a '73 CJ5 and miss it alot. It was on 33's, full cage, OBA, spooled D44...

THe ZJ is on 5.5", 33's, ARB. M8000 and lots more. It's weak point is not it's axles or size. It's the weight. It sinks in sand regardless of tire choice or air pressure. I've taken the ZJ many places that others would not. The Tracker will fit in a lot of tiny places just like the CJ5 did.

The ZJ is outfitted as it will probably stay, and the Tracker will see a bit more lift and some 31's... Either way, the wheeling experience in the two rigs is very different and each has thier pluses. ;)

I've got a 93 ZJ and an 87 Sami.
I've also wheeled with friends who own TJs/YJs of various sizes and a ZJ on 35s (6" with Claytons).

Unibodies suck (you should see the stress cracks 3 years of wheeling make.
D35s blow
with finesse D30s will live

This weekend, my Zuke on 215s far surpased what I thought it could do, and impressed many people who watched me drive it.

The ZJ needs a tranny

That's an understatement... My 96 ZJ went through 3 in 1.5 years... I bought it on it's second tranny. those RE/RH chrysler designs are HORID!

Swap in an AW4 from an XJ along with the computer and it will live 500k miles with extreme use.

I think Mike Hagen once said a Track/Kick
on 35s is like a Heep on 38s, so that being
true, a Kick on 31s should be like a Heep
on 34-35s   ;D  Get a locker too, makes
Heeps shutter  :o

Wild

Are you talking 2dr, or 4dr kick? or does it matter.  I know the 4dr is only a little lighter than a Heep.

the money I've got into my trac might buy a POS heep ...

I can go just as far or further than heeps that have 2x as much into them.

But of course it's a "girlie car" LOL

The heep guy I just ran with doesnt seem to have any more into it than I would... I think the kick does look better than a heep.

Here is the only pick I could find of me and my club. The guys I ride are 37's+ with the majority of them being 40's+. Needless to say I'm the runt of the bunch with my Kick on 33's but she hangs right in there with them on 90% of the obsticles. As far as cost goes, yea I have spent time and money on my ride but nowhere near the cost of buying and building a Jeep.

There is a whole section devoted to Mr Hagens build ups of many Kick related Items. Good Readings
http://www.zukiworld.com/main_departments_archive.htm
Go down just pass the half way mark and Hagens articles will be boxed by Gray on the right side of the screen.

And heres the article of the build up axle shafts
