Does anyone know if this will work with a 96 Tracker?
« on: August 22, 2007, 01:30:19 PM »
I saw this rack on jcwhit and would love to get it but am not sure if the lug pattern is the same or if the factory rack can even support it?
Currently I have a 30x9.5 tire already weighing the spare tire rack down, so will a 5 gal can of gas be too much to handle?  How strong are the factory tire racks?

Any info is awesome!
thank you!

PS: getting an aftermarket tire rack is not an option for me....

You will need a Jeep CJ lug pattern to work. People have had mixed results with the stability of the factory tire racks. I personally have had great results (hanging a 33x12.50 off of it for years with no problems), BUT my spare does tighten down tight against the body bringing movement to a minimum.

I would be worried about the weight and leverage of the basket pulling the bolts out of the tailgate of yer Track/Kick and doing some damage due to bouncing around on trails.
As for the CJ bolt pattern well... Track/Kicks are the exact same pattern as the CJ.

Yea, that are the same lug pattern as the CJ. But Jeep went to a different lug pattern when they built the YJ.

I believe they also have a rack like that but hitch mount... 2" receiver. You could modify it a little to be higher up...

Is it worth it for that little amount of carrying space? Aren't you better off putting a cargo carrier on the hitch?
