Auto Transmission Problems
« on: August 25, 2007, 02:52:23 PM »
I just bought a 94 swb tracker from a co worker for a 100 bucks. Its got an 8v mated to the auto trans. I goes from park to drive and reverse just fine but when in drive it wont shift up. I looked at the condition of the fluid and it looks like used engine oil so that obviously needs changed but does anybody else have any ideas.

Sounds like the tranny is gone, you should be able to find a cheap used one and change it yourself. If it were mine I'd try to change the filter and fluid and see if it helps at all. If it does seem like its  shifting better after that then go to a place that can flush the rest of the fluid. Then after a week I'd change the filter and fluid again and add some lucas. If changing the fluid and filter doesn't do anything I'd also check the vacuum lines to the modulator valve and the valve itself.

Thanks a bunch, I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the changing of fluids will allow it to shift again. Where would the modulator valve be? I've never owned an auto before, I think I need to order a couple of books while I'm at the part store.
