I like our xl7 but I am a little bit disappointed with the power and mileage. What are you guys getting with your's. Anybody done anything to get some more power or mileage. Mine is all stock with about 45k on it.

I have a 2002 xl7 and the milage does suck (but i love it anyways) about 400-450kms to a tank of gas!(it eats it up)I heard sea foam helps but have yet to try it.A friend of mine has a 95 ford explorer(i think it's a 4L) and on a trip from montreal to toronto and back he used half a tank less than me .What the f***!

I don't like the mpg either. I consistently get 15-16 driving to/from work and around town, weekly. I've added taller tires (225/70s) so there has to be some consideration for the difference.

What I really don't like, and I manually shift the auto do to it, is the 1st to start off from a dead stop and turning. While in the turn, it'll shift into 2nd. There is no power in the lower bands of the rpm and I can't accelerate to the given 25-35 mph. Another disappointment is the acceleration up an on-ramp. I keep it in 2nd going 40-45mph then shift to 3rd to accelerate up to 65 or more mph to merge into traffic. I then hit the OD button to get it into OD.

Either you need a sports car or you might want to get your trans looked at.  I'm running 245/75/16 about the same on gas and still gets up and goes with no issues

I do the same thing.  And my 2.0 in my Tracker is the same, you have to wind the gears out and then get better milage.......Go figure.  My wifes XL-7 gets about 19 avg. around our home, which is some town driving and country (50 mph) road driving.  Sometimes it gets 21, and when we drove up to Vermont last year from New Jersey it got consistent 23 mpg all the way up, while up there driving around and comming home.  Stock tires etc.
