Hardtop question???
« on: November 15, 2004, 11:13:51 PM »
Ok, i'm in the process of putting a hardtop on my Tracker. It came off a 89 kick and mine is a 95,the 95 has different trim where the soft top meets the body.
What do i have to do to get it to fit?
The plastic trim seems to be in the way,do i have to take it off? I want it to seal up good,no leaks.
I spent a few bucks and i painted it to match my tracker,so i ain't giving up till it fits nice.            Stu.

Yes,  you have to remove all of the soft top hardware.  All of the plastic and metal bits.

yup pull all the soft top related bits (including the clips under the visors).

Most tops also then have brackets that mount where some of the pieces you removed were located.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy it.

Different brands of hardtops mount in different ways. To mount mine, I remove all of the soft top pieces, frames, clips and ribs, leaving only the front clips under the visors. I usually put all the screws back into their original holes with a little anti-seize to keep track of them for the annual spring time swap back to soft top. The only things I leave behind from the soft top is the front clips under the visors and the weather stipping...
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

I swapped my softtop samurai over to a hardtop. I had to take all the plastic pieces for the soft top off as well.. I test fitted by setting everything in place and everything lined up better, except where the top meets the top of the windshield. It had a bit of a gap in the middle. It wasnt anything major, just enough to let the wind in while driving. I made some brackets to replace the ones I didnt get with the top, and tryed to see if I could pull the top a bit closer to the windshield to seal better. I used a trunk seal from a 72 lincoln and that did the job. Now it seals with no water leaks, or air..

The hard tops don't conflict in years. Its the soft tops that have a different mounting system.

Do you have to put any extra weather stripping on where the plastic trim came off??
