Bumper or Lift first?

Hi I have the calmini 3" body lift and stock suspension and I run on 235/75's. I'm stuck cuz I know if I get the calmini 2" suspension which would give me 5", I'd need to get bigger tires because it would look retarded probably with just 235's. I really want the shrockworks bumper too. It's a great looking bumper and good for offroading too. SO, which do you guys think I should get first, the bumper, or the suspension? I'm leaning heavely to toward the bumper. IT would make my kick look badd ass!! Also, is it true the bumper only weighs 89lbs?

if it was me i'd go with the bumper.  Are the 235 mud terrains?  After that i'd go with some 1.5in front coil spacers and 2in rear coil spacers and run 31s...then id go for a lock rite in the rear

Just my humble opinion, but I think it looks retarded to put an offroad bumper on something without alot of lift. Do the coil lift or 2" Calmini first. museboy07 is right on with the coil spacers, with that you may still be able to buy the bumper. I'll sell you the 1.5" and 2" spacers for $80 total. You will need new rear shocks and to extend, replace, or modify the front struts, but then you are done. Total cost: $100-350 (including the $80) depending on how you do the front. Search around on here, there are lots of solutions on how to handle the front struts. You can email me |removethispart|@ hoepkers|removethispart|@charter.net.

Ya coil spacers will give you the same lift height...you don't really need the calmini kit if your not really a hard offroader.  Even if you are coil spacers are still WAY cheaper.   I got jeff spacers on mine now and i BEAT my lil rig up and not once did any of them fail.

So heres what i would do in this order

1. 1.5in/2in coil spacer combo
2. 1992 crown vic rear shocks
3. strut spacers
4. 30-31in tires (MT's)
5. cheapy rock crawler wheels
6. the "bumper" with a winch
7. rear lock rite

If all this was installed your rig would be an EXTREMELY capable trail machine and still be road worthy.  If i could start over this is the direction i would take...BEST OF LUCK!! :)

I stare at Jeff's spacers and those shocks leaning against the wall in eager anticipation:

Okay, thanks for being honest!  :( I was hoping I wouldn't hear that!! Anyways, the thing is, I'm not sure really right now, if I want to lift my truck anymore, or how much more. It's not gonna be a serious off-roader, maybe a couple backwoods trails, no rocks or anything, a little mud though. I'm just trying to give it a tougher, more aggressive look. Trying to get away from the little baby face look! It was my mom's before she passed and my dad gave it to me when I graduated high school, so it means a lot to me. I don't want to change too much you know. Doing the bumper, some 31's and maybe another 2" of lift would be it. But I thought the bumper might look fine with the 3" body lift. I don't know maybe you're right.

Thanks you guys for your opinions, and no my 235's are just a/t.  Any other opinions on what to do are welcome! Thanks Jeff, I'll let ya know what I decide.

Don't get me wrong a cool looking light bar or small tube brush guard/bumper can look cool on any 4wd. The thing that kills me is when guys put a winch and d-rings on a full out offroad bumper, chrome it and put it on their 07 Grand Cherokee Limited or $70,000 Land Rover/Hummer/ETC that will NEVER see dirt let alone REAL off road. I go for function with a little look cool mixed in!! ;D ;D

Well personelly, Ya gotta start out someplace.
half the lift is on.
If you want the bumper, get it.
It is well worth it .
Your rig well only look better and Tougher.
Since it is a SideKick, it is NO mallCrawler..

I'd put the lift on before the bumper. You can survive with stock bumpers just fine, plus you said it's not a serious off road rig so you probably won't NEED the Shrockworks steel right away anyway. Jack it up, put some mudders on it, and you'll have the look you want.

I'm waiting for my Calmini 3" (should be here Thursday, been waiting for almost 2 months) Before adding a heavy front bumper which might drop the stock front springs a bit making the track look smaller from the front.

true, if you put that bumper on with stock front springs it's gonna drop an inch or so i'd guess.

but, you know what, the car means something to you, do with it as you please!

Thank you all for your opinions. I've decided althought it's not gonna be a completely off-road vehicle,  I want the bumper. With it I'll be able to clear 31's, with minor trimming behind the wheel, when and if I do decide to make it into a serious off-roader, I'll have the winch bumper already, and just have to buy the winch, also, it'll look kick ass, 6"s tall or not, even with just the three. At least it's not still stock height!! I don't believe that the front will drop much if at all, the bumper only weighs about 100lbs, I called them and asked, and they said they've had people but it with stock suspension, and no complaints. I think it's gonna be great. And if it does drop, it'll only be about maybe half, or a quarter of an inch. The front is pretty dang stiff, and 100lbs aint all that much, plus it won't have the winch so, it'll be cool. But I appreciate everybodys opinions, and I will maybe next year or so, get a 2" suspension lift to get me 5". I'll let yall know how it goes once I get the bumper.

I think I would do a little lift or go slightly smaller tires before doing any trimming.  I think it devalues when you start cutting and trimming. Maybe a body lift would give you the clearance without cutting?

trimming done right won't devalue it ... and better than a bodylift.

now, I've bodylifted both of mine, but also trimmed as well :)
