91` SUZUKI SAMURAI
« on: October 10, 2007, 09:04:47 AM »
HI I AM NEW TO THIS FORUM AND WOULD LIKE TO ASK A QUESTION.

RECENTLY I WORKED ON MY A/C AND THE ONLY WAY I CAN ENGAGE THE COMPRESSOR CLUTCH IS WITH A HOT WIRE, BUT WHEN I REMOVE THE WIRE AND AND CONNECT TO THE FACTORY LEAD NOTHING HAPPENS, ALSO I PUT IN 2-CANS OF FREON AND SOME OIL, WHAT IS THE NORMAL CAPACITY TO REFILL, IT WAS TOTALY EMPTY.

THANK YOU

First see if the fuse is blown.  :)

Take a volt meter and see if there is 12V on the factory wire when you turn the switch on.  If not pull the switch out of the dash and see if there is 12V going to the switch.  If not, trace the wire back or run a new one to the switch.  Make sure your key is on and possibly engine running before checking voltage.

Thank you

I will check this weekend, I know for sure there is no power coming to the main lead. Also there is a Relay Close to the ECM with four prongs that looks pretty croded wonder if that might have anything to do with it. Its a Denso relay 12v 056700-8790

If the relay is out and it runs the compressor that would do it.  I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me so I'm not sure how it is wired up.  The switch is always an easy place to start though, so I would go from there.

The chart I have says 87-88 samurais take 28oz. of R12 (which sounds high).
It says 89-93 takes 18oz. of R12 (sounds more normal).
And 94-95 samurais take 18oz. of 134a.
Since you said you are working on a 91, the system is overcharged....which will mean it will not work very well and could damage the compressor from too high of a pressure.
If you didn't pull vacuum on the system before you added the refrigerant, you didn't get the moisture out of the system, so I wouldn't expect it to work very well (if you can get the comp. clutch problem fixed).
IIRC, there should be a fuse and a relay for the comp. clutch.
The 2 relays that are right beside the ecm are the main relay and the fuel pump relay....neither have anything to do with the ac comp. clutch.
Tracker and Sidekick parts for sale.....PM me with your wants/needs.
