Competition crawling
« on: November 13, 2004, 04:56:21 PM »
I went to see a Local VROC competition today (Never seen one in person).   I about knawed my leg off having to stand around and watch.  I've never gotten to play in rocks like this  :o :o :o

Event home page:

March event pics:

One of the guys I wheel with (a costal mud bog guy) ran the Stock class in his Sammy (limited mods & 35's) .  He smoked the competition and at days end was the only one left in his class still driving.   He has suffered fair amounts of body damage... Oh yea and this is his Daily drive and the only ride he has to get to work on monday.  He is one hard core dude.

After watching today I've got the itch.  Big question is do I build up another Sammy (Multi port 1.6 on Yotas) OR follow along with the new found learnings of an IFS Kick?    Stock class will not let ya SAS an IFS (getting that out of the way).

I have the (dead title) platform for either:

Sammy already has the yota's, but needs lots more.

Yea the Kick is 2wd with a dead 5spd, but all of that can change in short order.

I'm leaning towardws the Track / Kick  with the 1.6 8v (Cause it's their) auto trans Much easier on the Drive line + 4.24:1 low, with 5.13:1's and a custom housing + locked front with Hagen's style shafts.   I figure showing up with a Sleeper IFS Kick would be GREAT,  No one their would take me seriously.   ;)

yea, get one of the "neon" painted geo trackers ... that would be a show!

But on topic, the sammy you showed looks much closer to being the way to go (paint it a neon color if you like :) )

Honestly I personally would go with the trackick (no suprise to most of you Im sure) but the sami with the toy axles looks like it could be ready for competition within an afternoon. add a 4to1,lockers,...done :P I think in your case Id go with the sami.

Still a tough call  :-X.  Thanks all for the input.  Still don't have one or the other pushing me over the edge to decide.

As Mike said above the sammy could be ready in nearly an afternoon.  Yj's and M/L's + I have a spare sammy cage.

With all these excess parts laying around (outside in the weather) I think I might start with the sammy.

Next competition should come around in March.

Another friend suggested: "I think I should build that sammi on yota's and wheel it while you do the kick."

This sounds like the best ideia yet.

Just out of curiousity... your kick is too modified for the stock class, I take it then?

I'd rather wheel the 4-dr in Comp but I'd hate to kill it. Every one at the Comp encountered extreem body damage.  Folding in doors & B-pillars, busting glass, ect.   First obsticle had a V-notch that folded in the bad wall & smeared all the top snaps of my buddys DD sammy.
Yes the stock class had to come thru here, Just like this modifyed buggy.

Not the kind of wheeling I want to subject my 4-dr too.   But If I can find another 4-dr with some body damage  ::)  Game On!!!

I'm looking forward to taking my 4-dr on family vacation at the beach this year.  I can ride on the road with big tire on the Outerbanks of NC and not get hastled by "THE MAN".  SO how big can I go before July still running IFS.  Wheeling across the beach with an Auto should be easy enough on the CV's.  Ever seen an IFS Kick on 38" TSL's ???   WOuld it even be able to move down the road at 55 mph??    Oh Wild!!!   ABout this Turbo set up... ;)
