Perfect tire size??
« on: October 11, 2007, 05:15:48 PM »
I have an 87 samurai with a 6" lift and i am currently running 33x12.5's. is that too big or too wide cause they rub really bad. I just wanted to see what everyone thought or has on their rigs because I may want to go to a different size. Thanks for the help!

No 33/12.50's are only appropriate on a Sidekick. As it so happens I have a Sidekick so send them to me and I will send you some little tires for your Tipsy Samurai.

Heh.  :)

Where are they rubbing at?  On the springs or on the body?

3.75 backspaced rims should make it fine, my old boss had that combo, the only time it rubbbed was when he ran into a deer and pushed his bumper into the tire.

I'm running the same amount of lift as you and i run 33" x 10.50 Boggers on stock sami rims with 2" wheel spacers.  My biggest problem arises when I go to stuff the fronts, i get good hard rubbing that knocks the fender flares off on the bottom.  Hope this helps! 8)

That is why I was wondering where it was rubbing.  I run 33x12.5 on my SJ with 3.5" rims and cut my fenders out to get rid of the rubbing.  :)

Course, I have a 410 so the springs are 1.5" inboard on each side...

Spider Trax makes some nice spacers.  You can also get some off of E-Bay for Fords, but they make you change your lug nuts over to standard.  If you get an e-bay pair make sure they include both lug nuts and mounting nuts.

I like BIG tires, but whatever you feel comfortable with is the perfect tire size really.
