Lug nut size for Geo Tracker
« on: October 19, 2007, 06:34:59 PM »
Hey gang,

I am super excited about picking up my Cooper Discoverer STT's from UPS on Mon. My rockcrawler wheels should be here any day now as well, but I fear I goofed by not purchasing new lug nuts and caps with the wheels. I should be able to bop on down to Shucks and pick them up, any idea on the size? Thanks much.

Unless you are using a spacer your existing nuts should work fine.

I need a few new lugs nuts as I have sheared off/rounded out the old ones. (not to mention lost them). I probably need 2 at least as far as lug nuts go. The caps, well, I have broken 2 of them as well. I would have loved to keep them but the fell victim to the last rotation (couldn't get the damn tires off, so I flexed a bit of muscle). Long story short, they broke.

Ouch... I would just check with your local tire dealer.  They should be able to provide you with a few as they need them for after market rims.

If nothing else just give Hawk a call and they can provide you with the pitch.  Or if you want to wait a bit just let me know and I can mail you some.  I have a few dozen extra acorn nuts laying around from various axle tear downs.  :)

I've broken 3 lug nuts so far with the air gun, the chrome covers break off and round off the nut. I end up having to use an air chizzel to loosen them. Anyone else have this problem with these lug nuts? I need something that's not going to break.

Are you using a 12 point socket with that impact gun? Either way Get a set of impact sockets from Sears that will fix your problem.

I was checking out a website the other day that sells 1-piece enclosed lug nuts, no caps. They were like $1.50/ea I'll post a link if I can find it again.
