Looking to buy a Sami
« on: November 15, 2004, 07:01:26 AM »
This a good price? I think so
no rust, has rock rails
stock sami drive train
31" goodyear mtr w/ 6" lift 3 body 3 suspension and 2" offset rims

for about 1700 american

thing is
Samurai..... right 64 hp?
I need to commute going 60mph at least on the highways at times...
stock ring/pinion gearing...
is that going to be very scary with 31" mtr?

it looks great
but i still would like to be safe

deal doesn't sound bad ... reasonable for what I saw on sammis before I ended up getting my tracker.

how long a "commute" are you talking about? I know I wouldn;t want to go more than 30 minutes in a "trail rig" on a daily basis. I also have a '00 silverado I wouldn't commute in (gas mostly, but also ride reasons)

well
for instance I drive out of town for a couple hours of a time to go hunting

the engine is liquid cooled
but without gears...
is the 5th gear even going to be functional?

Ok then ... w "commute" and thought something different ...

A "3 hour trip" at 60mph is a "3.6 hour trip" at 50mph ... me, I just go slower and eat the 36 minutes :)

If your running 31's your going to need a 4 to 1 t-case or go to a 29 tire, who cares about 5th gear if you have bigger tires on it, your clutch will thank you for smaller tires or a t-case gear set. only 400.00 for a 4 to 1 gear set and that would work out good.

I drove over 3 hours back from the adventure in Erics Sami and was fine with the ride. It has the YJ spring suspension, 33x12.50's and 5.12 gears(I think). It was slow in the mountains but besides I had no complaints after 3 days of non stop driving it ;)
