sammy tranny?
« on: October 22, 2007, 03:54:09 PM »
hey i just finished putting in the new clutch.
my buddy before making sure everything was clear between the block and tranny tightened up the top 2 bolts and it pinched the wire off of one of the snesors that mount on top of the tranny. do you have to have both of the sensors or can one be forgotten about?

another question

do you just poor the tranny fluid down through the shift knob hole or is there a special place?

THANKS

Robbie

well u need the wires, i would try to splice and crimp, one is for the reverse lights, and i believe one is for the......... ??? egr ??? correct me if i am wrong, also, u can pour the gear oil into the shifter casing, but make sure u fill, and then pull the top bolt off of the back of the trans, and drain back to proper level......

here's a pic, hope this helps....   Matt

ok i will take a look at it.

will the tranny not work if its the "egr" sensor thats gone or will it just say somethings wrong?

is there a way to tell which sensor is which? they both go up into the same sleeve.

actually they have their own disconnect points, and i am not sure which is which, but u do need them connected, the egr will not read for your 5th gear, and kick in all the other components u need.    i just looked at my spare, and it looks like the one closer to the rear of the trans is for the reverse... hope this helps.....

The one towards the front of the tranny is for the reverse lights (red and yellow wires) and the rear one is the 5th gear switch (Lt. Blue and Black-Green wires).

the one that is cut are red-green and black wires. so im guessing that is the egr. the wires to the other sensor are red and yellow wires which would be the reverse lights. is that correct?

I forget which is which but if you connect them and put it in reverse providing your backup light works, it will tell you if it's right. The other switch has to do with economy and does something with the carb to save you gas in 5th gear I believe. If you have the factory carb, you need the switch for best fuel economy. Hawk sells good used switches for pretty cheap along with any other part you need. I thinkg the switches are like $12.95 complete from connector to connector. Hawk Strictly Suzuki will also tell you which is which if you are still confused. Order some other parts you need to make the shipping worth while. Check out their website.
