window issue
« on: November 15, 2004, 03:11:20 AM »
the windows on my 93 tracker..they roll down with no problems..however putting them back up is just about impossible. the drivers side keeps completely shifting out of track and is VERY hard to actually get to seal in the top correctly and the passanger side is really REALLY hard to turn up. i've already broken one window crank and i dont' want to break another...do i need to get new doors or can i just pull the door off, apart, and fix them quickly? also the lock on the passanger door is just about impossible to open up. its really tough to pull up on it like it's stuck. any ideas? also does anyone happen to have a spare inside door handle for these? mine broke :(

Mine did that when the door glass runs (the weatherstrips the window rides in) wore out. Replaced them both and they were working like new.
As for the door lock, lube the whole latch assy when you have the door panels off.

Hey! My passenger side one is doing what your driver's side one is doing.  >:( It's a pain in the keister.

How hard IS this to fix, anybody know?

As for door handles and window cranks.. most junkyards around here give a rat's you know what if you need one. I've walked out with several freebies in the past including consoles, tons of those stupid plastic tabs that hold everything together inside these trucks, and a map light. Checked any yards there?

Tom cat is correct, just change the weather stripping and you'll be fine. It's not that hard to rip out but it may be a bit of a pain if you don't take out the window first. Next easiest way without removing the window is take the door panel off and kind of pull the strip down on the track.

What ever you do DO NOT put stuff like WD40 on the worn strip... it will work for like 2-3 days but it'll start to eat the strip and it'll stick even worse... One quick fix for a short time will be hit the parts store for a bottle of rubber seal conditioner and wipe the stripping clean.

yea but unfortunately the junkyard around here has a 10 dollar minimum junkyard fee..so basically anything i get is at least 10 bucks..i mean if i picked out like 3 small things it might be only 15 total but still...what about this weather stripping thing? i think i need to get that done pretty bad...also i have this really bad draft in my track. i think it's because i don't have the door handle release inside on the passanger side...but breaking out of your own vehicle is kinda rediculous  >:(

My problem is documtented here:

http://www.zukiworld.com/cgi/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=suzuki_talk;action=display;num=1093301638;start=2#2

I had to cut a hole out of the sheet metal just to be able to get to the pully to trim off the excess frayed wire...it rolls ok, enough to be tolerable for now.  I broke my drivers side hand crank too.  Most auto part stores carry replacements...they don't look or feel exactly the same but they get the job done, OR you can also look at ebay they always have lots of them on there.

I covered this a few months back,
but searching the archive is a pain

I have the origional window crank handles
and other than the red drivers door which
is from a 89 or 90 Kick all the stock rubber.

You can remove the window and the regulator,
which is the thing that makes the window go
up and down.

To remove the window, take off the inner door
panel, I have a JLX so the panel wraps around
the top of the door and includes the inner rattle
strip. There will also be some plastic sheeting
which can stay if you want.

The window is held with 2 #3 phillips screws,
you must get a #3 driver or they don't
come out, they are tough. Remove the window
out thru the top of the door

Get the window crank off, and remove the 3 or 4
#3 screws that hold the regulator in place.

Now you can see what you are doing, the regulator
is a crank and some cables inside covers, and some
pullies, not real fancy. You can fold the whole thing
and remove it thru the hole in the door.

Now the lubing begins !!!

Get some Silicone Spray, it dries clear and
dry, no oily residue, and get some spray lithium
white grease

Use the grease on the cables, pullies, and the tracks
that the nylon sliders ride in, work the regulator
several times through the range up and down.

Use the silicone spray inside the door, in the
rubber/felt channels that the glass rides in, spray
the crap out of it, let it sit a few Min and spray it
again, do all of the channels inside the door and
in the upper frame and along the top

While you are in there use the grease on the
lock mechanism and the door handle pulls and
latches, don't get it on the rubber because it
will smear on the glass

Assemble the regulator into the door, replace
the window, and put the panel back on, and
move to the other door, repeat

This done every 3-5 years should be all that is
needed to keep the windows rolling smoothly
and the handles from breaking off

Enjoy
