haha funny thing happend i was doin about 85 in the suki. i looked down and saw the temp. gauge siting at H, i was over heating. among further review i found a screw from my A/C had punched through the radiator.  im gona change the readiator thermistat upper and lower hoses. now if anyones done this let me know.  im gona start on Sat.

Changing the radiator out isn't that hard, it's just tight to fit your hands in.

I normally remove the hoses first and let it drain out onto the street, or into the gutter (where ever it seems like a greenpeace guy might be watching), then remove the nuts from the engine fan, then undo the fan shroud, and lift out the fan shroud and fan at the same time.

Now unbolt the radiator from it's upper mounts and lift that sucka outta there.  If you've got an automatic, then that's your PITA to deal with because you'll have cooling lines running into it that you'll also have to remove and drain and spill tranny fluid all over your good shoes.  If it's a 5-speed, then it should only take an hour from start to finish to swap it all out.

You may be able to get away with doing this without removing the belt (it can hold the pulley in place by the tension that's on it), but if you have to remove it, it's not hard either.

BTW, it's a great time to change the timing belt since you'll have good access to it.  When i do a timing belt in these, i'll pull out the radiator just for more access, since it doesn't take that long.

MAKE SURE when you put the radiator back in place that the rubber pieces are in the holes that the radiator lines back into.  When i bought my current sidekick, someone had not put one back in at some point, and it wore through the radiator and developed a slow leak.

Mine gets close to 85.  It's at least 80, but hard to tell cause the speedo doesn't always work.  It runs about 3800 rpm at that speed.

Ya, mine probably does too. The 31" tires throw the speedo off alot. The speedo says about 78 tops but it is more like 85+.

I can't believe you ( CrikeyMike) encouraged someone to drain their coolant into the street. Might be fine if it was just water, but antifreeze should be disposed of properly. Animals tend to be drawn to it for it's sweet smell and taste, and readily drink it because of that. It causes a painful and miserable death, besides polluting the ground water.  Not just an opinion, fact.  BTW, the Turbo Tracker will bury the speedo, untill the needle is twisting around back to 10mph. Scary Fast, and handles like S#%|removethispart|@!

haha ya the thing does fine.  with my gps on the way to the sand dunes it read 103mph and thats with running 30'sitn at 4900 to 5100 . you mean that none of yours are that fast. lol that makes me feel kinda special. lol

I filled my post with sarcasm, and i'm sure most could see that I wasn't being serious.

Every idiot knows you're not supposed to let it drain into the street.


Now, I can't believe you (bentparts) would actually endanger the lives of innocent children playing in the streets while watching your speedo needle twist around back to 10mph.  Don't you know you're not supposed to speed?  There are speed limit signs everywhere!!!  I'd rather see coolant in the gutter than some lunatic driving a suzuki at 130mph on any street.

haha, it was fun  though.  don't worry crikeymike the streets were empty.  and i dont think kids play on the highway.  iv had my run in with the law before. jk probably wont do it again the chick driving with me hated it.

OK Crikey Mike, point taken.  Forgive my rant? BTW, It was more like a 115, we all know these speedo's are waay optimistic. And it was in a school zone at 8:00 am and I was drunk!

I am really glad to hear that, I personally pay a little more and get the environmental stuff in case I spill it on the trail. However I too have heard about animals dieing a horrible death as a result of ingesting antifreeze. I am glad the industry (probably our or some other nations government) did something about it. I am surprised that this info is not in bold print on the label

Actually no, I haven't tasted it lately. Besides, EVERYONE knows your supposed to mix old antifreeze equally with MEK and Xylene, then pour it in your pool to prevent mold. Ok, just kidding now, but the antifreeze warning for pets, and other animals only sticks in my mind because I have pets, and lots of wildlife around my property. Maybe it's outdated, maybe they've changed the formula since way back when and it no longer tastes so good. I'll have to try some with my coffee later. Thanks Hodge.
