1.6 8v Need help with error codes
« on: November 07, 2007, 03:40:08 PM »
I have two questions.

1) I have the following error codes 14, 21, 23, 31, 44, 54. To save searching and for those who have not committed this to memory already thats:

Coolant temp sensor
Throttle position sensor
Intake air sensor
Atmospheric pressure sensor
Idle switch sensor
Fifth gear switch circuit

The truck will start but shudders off idle unless I feather it. It then does the same at about 3K, just like if the timing is not being adjusted which is probably the case. It is a 8v 1.6 TBI in a '92 Sammi with the stock wiring harness. Everything has been fine for years until I lost a nut off the GM alternator and decided to replace it in the dark by flashlight without disconnecting the battery. I did arc once but not bad. Or so I thought.
Any ideas? I pulled the pos battery cable and waited two hours, reconnected and I still have the check engine light.

2) I have searched everywhere for a diagram of vacuum lines for the 8v 1.6 as installed in the 1.3 Sammi. Everything on the engine belongs to the 1.6, I did not use 1.3 head, TB, or intake. Does anyone have a diagram or know where I can find one? Is it exactly the same? I've had the 1.6 in for about 7 years and it has ran fine, just wondering how others have done it.

Thanks

Paul

Thanks for the research on the error codes but nope, I already got those covered. It's the vacuum diagram for an 8v 'kick or tracker that I need. I want to compare it to my underhood sticker and figure out how to run my lines. That, or maybe someone has already done all the work and I can just mooch it off them. ;)

For the error codes it looks like I may have a bad ECM. That sucks and it's a lesson I didn't need to learn. I know to disconnect the battery or my precious ECM before I do anything but I was in a hurry. :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

Thats a fairly comprehensive list of failures. I suspect that you have either blown up the power output to the sensors or you have a bad wire/connection.
